Problem:
The following message appeared in AutoPIPE:

W214-1: The combination data file (*.CMB) you are about to open was created in a different version of the product and is not compatible with the current version. This file will be backed up (*.~CM) and a new combination data file will be created. You will need to re-define any previous user code and non-code
combinations.

Why and how to avoid it?
Solution:
As the message mentioned, this current combination file (*.CMB) was created in a different version than is currently being used. This is typical when opening an AutoPIPE model created by a higher version than is currently being used.
Example:
Model was originally created by AutoPIPE CONNECT 10.01.00.08.
Model is now opened directly by AutoPIPE V8i 09.06.02.06.
When opening a model created by a newer version in an older version will corrupt a model. This message is a clear indicator of that. Although the program has circumnavigated this problem by creating a new CMB file. The question beckons, what other problems exist with this model?

Avoidance:
1.Close the file.
2. In AutoPIPE select Tools> Settings> Model Version> set to Always
3. Re-open the file
4. A dialog should appear notifying the user what version the model was first created, last version that modified the file, and the current version being used.
Example:
5. Is the Las modified version higher than the Curent Product version?
Does the Last modified version or First created version have ** or 00 at the beginning of the version number?
If answer = Yes for one or both questions, than this is an indicator that the current version of the program is not correct and there are possible errors with the current database file.
Note: the Current Product version should always be the same or higher that the Last Modified version
Option #1:
a. In AutoPIPE, select Help> About> upper right hand corner see current program version.
b. Contact the person who last had the model opened, ask that they reopen it in their version and than use File> Save As> select your version. This will generate a file with the version extension:

c. Ask that they then send you that file.
d. Place new data file in same folder as the original model trying to be opened.
Options #2:
Try using a process called round tripping. See WIKI here for details.
Option #3:
If this CMB file was imported from another model. Again, this CMB file is not valid. Similar to avoidance #1 above
a. Reopen the model in the version last used to modify it (ex. 10.01.00.08).
b. Save the file back to a previous version (ex. V09.06)
c. Open that model in an 09.06.xx.xx version of the program.
d. Analyze the model,
e. Open the Combinations dialog and press OK button.
f. Close the model
g. Open the model with which to import the CMB file, and use the Combination Option> Import Combination File command to import an CMB file compatibly with the current version.
