04. How to perform a direct MSI installation of AutoPIPE v.11 and higher?

How to perform a direct MSI installation of AutoPIPE?

Solution:

Use instructions below to extracted MSI files and prerequisites from the AutoPIPE's installation file acquired from Bentley Software downloads:

Step #1: Download

Download AutoPIPE's installation file using instructions here..

Step #2: Extract MSI files

Using Wix installer v.3.11 to 3.14:

AutoPIPE's installation file was created using a program called WIX Burns installer. Therefore in order to extract MSI files from an application EXE file, search the internet and download Wix toolset 3.11 to 3.14. If you cannot find these version on the internet, log a Bentley Case, mention this WIKI, and request the application link / software will sent.

Install the WIX Toolset, no need to install the Visual Studio plugin.

a. After installing Wix Tool Set, locate the Dark.exe program. (default location: C:\Program Files (x86)\WiX Toolset v3.xx\bin

b. Open a CMD prompt.

c. Change directory to the folder containing the Dark.exe application.

d. Using the following syntax extract the files to a folder location:

dark.exe {Path_to_setup.exe} -x {Directory_Path}

Example:

Extracting files from AutoPIPE 23.00.00.230 EXE file to a folder called Test

dark d:/Setup_AutoPIPEx86_23.00.00.230.exe -x c:/test

e. Press Enter (return key ) to run the command.

f. The command has completed once the command prompt reappears

g. Go to the "Directory path" specified to see the files extracted

Note: open the AttachedContainer subfolder (example shown below)

Using /Layout switch for EXE Installers

This switch (/Layout) creates a complete local copy of the bundle in the directory. Search the internet for detailed instructions to use this switch.

Step #3: Install Pre-requisites

After extracting the MSI files from the AutoPIPE installer EXE file, suggest to first, install all pre-requisites in the following order:

Pre-requisites

- Microsoft® .NET Framework
- Microsoft® VC++ Redistributable (x86)
- Microsoft® VC++ Redistributable (x64)
- Microsoft® Visual C++ Redistributable Package MFC Security Update
- CONNECTION Client

Notes:

a. Skip any that have already been installed on the computer.

b. Pre-requisites listed above may change with different versions of the program. See Release notes for detail list of pre-requisites per version being installed.

c. Use command line arguments with Setup.exe to make it install silently:

-q or -quiet

-s or -silent

Step #4: Install AutoPIPE and Optional Applications

Next install AutoPIPE's MSI file extracted from the EXE file installers

In addition, install only those Optional Applications planning to use:

- PCF Translator (PCF Translator.msi)
- ADL Translator (ADLPipe Translator.msi)
- STRAIT Translator (STRAIT Translator.msi)
- ME101 Translator (ME101 Translator.msi)
- ITwins (Setup_iTwinServicesAddInx64_xx.xx.xx.xx.msi)
- Setup_iTwinAnalyticalSynchronizerx64_xx.xx.xx.xx.exe

Note:

a. Remember OPIM (OpenPlant Isometric Manager) is a separate installer, and only needed if generating Stress Isometrics using AutoPIPE Advanced license or AutoPIPE Nuclear License. Install OPIM using that program's installation instructions.

b. If using ProjectWise Explorer, be sure to install that applications' pre-requisites, see here.
