Can I install AutoPIPE on a VM (Virtual Machine)?
What is a Virtual Machine?
According the WIKIpida:
In computing, a virtual machine (VM) is an emulation of a computer system. Virtual machines are based on computer architectures and provide functionality of a physical computer. Their implementations may involve specialized hardware, software, or a combination....
Yes, AutoPIPE can be installed on a VM.
Virtual Machine Software:
There a many different software makers and programs that create a VM, therefore Bentley cannot provide detailed assistance in setting up the actual VM, However, we will be happy to assist with typical installation of Bentley applications. Suggest to contact the VM software technical support for installing instructions and settings recommendations of the VM.
Installing AutoPIPE:
The VM must meet the minimum requirements set forth in the AutoPIPE version's readme file. Then install AutoPIPE as if it was a normal computer.
Licensing AutoPIPE:
The VM must support licensing of Bentley application through BLT (Bentley Licensing Tool) supported by SES (Subscription Entitlement Service). There a number of methods to do this; connect to BLT, or check out a license to be imported into BLT.
User Profile / Permissions
As with an installation of AutoPIPE on a normal computer, the application will read / write to many folders. Thus, the users will still need permission to reads / writes data as needed by the application in a normal setting.
