What is New & Changed in AutoPIPE®

AutoPIPE CONNECT Edition version 12.2 (v12.02.00.14:2019-09)

The following outline identifies new features and enhancements in the AutoPIPE CONNECT Edition version 12.02.00.14.

    • Piping Codes
      • Added BS EN 13480-3:2017 for design criteria and stress calculation of industrial metallic piping systems, including supports.
    • Reports
      • SQLite Input and Output reports are now certified for commercial use and employ improved dialogs, a progress bar, and maintain a standard and consistent text format.
      • SQLite Input Listing reports have been improved to include more model coverage, printed in tabular format: Cut Short, Out-of-Roundness, Additional Weight, Hydrodynamic Data, User Weld Factor, Nozzle, Flexible Joint, and Anchor.
      • The SQLite Report Manager is now certified for commercial use with the added ability to generate reports in Microsoft® Excel® and standard text format.
      • The Time History Output report can now be filtered to remove very small numeric values (which are of no practical importance).
    • Analysis
      • An option has been added to define and analyze gross discontinuity stress using a standard, more conservative method. With this method, a single value of gross discontinuity stress can be entered at a node point for each thermal case.
      • The Support Optimization feature, used to identify optimal support solutions, is now available for testing to all users. [Technology Preview ]
      • Corrosion allowance is now available for Flange Analysis.
    • General
      • A logging mechanism has been added to capture the success/failure of program operations. This log file is a valuable tool for the Bentley Technical Support team to troubleshoot issues.
      • The Open Recent Models dialog has been improved to expand the number of recently used models, show a preview of a selected model, and display relevant file details.
    • Documentation
      • A Supplemental Documentation button has been added to the Help ribbon to access a set of Supplemental White Papers, How To Procedures, Tutorials, and Reference Information documents in PDF format within the main program help.
      • Nonlinear Analysis diagrams and associated program documentation have been improved.

    • Interoperability
      • Models can now be exported to a CAESAR II C2 file (compatible with CAESAR 2016 and higher). This eliminates the extra step of importing a CAESAR II neutral file and provides for more fidelity. B31.1 and B31.3 Piping Codes are also supported.
      • The PCF Translator has been enhanced with a new user interface and context-sensitive help to improve the user experience and workflow.

    • Isometrics
      • Isometric drawings have been improved to include updated support symbols for better visibility.

    • Security Release Notes
      • Not applicable to this release.

    How to Activate AutoPIPE®

Subscription Entitlement Service is Bentley's new licensing model, providing enhanced security and optimized value for your Bentley Subscriptions. It is integrated with Bentley's Identity Management System (IMS) and the Bentley CONNECT technology platform to allow near real-time reporting of usage, improved alert messaging to users and increased administrative capabilities to license administrators in your organization. It will not only give you more options to monitor and manage usage but also provide new, advanced licensing features that will enhance digital workflows.

    Activation

With Subscription Entitlement Service, all users must be registered with Bentley's Identity Management System (IMS) and sign in to the CONNECTION Client to access Bentley applications. Product activation will now occur through user sign-in to the CONNECTION Client with a valid IMS ID associated with their account. User sign-in will replace traditional activation keys, offering enhanced security as administrators will be able to control which users have access to Bentley software. License entitlements are granted and maintained through Subscription Entitlement Service's Entitlement Management Service. By signing into the CONNECTION Client users can also find their organization's projects, download software updates, receive relevant notifications, and track their usage.

    Alerts

Subscription Entitlement Service features the new license alerts notifications that can be set by an organization's license administrators to let the users know when they reach a set usage threshold. These notifications will alert the users that if they continue to use the product, a term license may be issued. The user in such a situation has the choice to quit the application before a license is used or acknowledge that a term license may be generated and proceed with starting the application, based on what settings the administrator chooses.

    Error History

    AutoPIPE v12.2.0

The following outline identifies all major errors fixed in Release of AutoPIPE v12.2.

    • 1010996 Insert new valve dialog may load incorrect length, surface area factor and weight from previously inserted valve

When inserting a new valve, program loads the insert valve dialog with the data from previously inserted valve. The displayed length, weight and surface area factor may not be correct for the new valve if the pipe nominal size is different from the previously inserted valve. If the user clicks ‘OK’ on the insert valve dialog without making any changes, the incorrect length, weight and/or surface area factor will be saved in the model. This use of incorrect value of weight and/or surface area factor in the analysis and stress calculations may lead to un-conservative results.

This issue is limited to Standard valves only and is not applicable to Non-Standard Valves i.e. valves with 'NS' selected as Standard.

    • 1018288 ASME Nuclear: Stress indices for bend mid points may be calculated incorrectly

When evaluating pre-verification and full verification stresses, bend mid points inherit the stress indices of the associated far point. For split mid points, reporting both a -ve and a +ve face, the +ve face of the mid-point will inherit the stress indices of the +ve face of the far point, which is considered a run or straight pipe in AutoPIPE. Additionally, regardless if the mid-point is two-faced or single-faced, if a User Joint and SIF is applied to the far point to override the default stress indices, the mid-point will also inherit this joint data. Incorrect SIF calculations on the bend mid-point +ve face will decrease the stress results in the pre-verification and full-verification reports, which is unconservative. Additionally, due to AutoPIPE’s behavior of applying stress indices to soil points, all soil points following a mid-point +ve face and preceding the far point -ve face (i.e. soil points between the mid-point and far-point) will have the same incorrect stress indices, taken from the +ve face of the mid-point.

    • 1035676 ASME NB: Equation 11 Temperature distribution terms for tee points always use the second tee header leg material properties which may not be conservative for Tees with varying material across the legs

When evaluating ASME NB equation 11 for tee points, AutoPIPE calculates both the linear temperature distribution and non-linear temperature distribution terms using Modulus of Elasticity, Thermal Expansion, and Poisson’s ratio from the second header leg always. These terms are calculated in AutoPIPE under the assumption that the material properties for all tee legs are the same. However, AutoPIPE is also capable of supporting different materials for each tee leg, independent of the other tee legs. Using the pipe material properties from the second header leg only when determining wall gradient stresses can result in a lower stress value, which can lead to unconservative results.

    • 1048471 ASME B31J: Skewed tees do not always calculate stiffness values correctly

ASME B31J provides details on calculation of tee flexibility factors. These flexibility factors are provided in the tee local coordinates (in-plane, out-plane, and torsional) and relationships to calculate tee branch and header stiffness values using these flexibility factors in tee local coordinates are provided. AutoPIPE requires transformation of these stiffnesses into the element (header or branch legs) local coordinate system to compliment the element stiffness matrix. A defect exists in AutoPIPE during the transformation of the B31J stiffnesses from the tee local to element local coordinates. This defective transformation produces incorrect stiffnesses of tees that are skewed off at least one global axis. This stiffness error is carried through to displacement, forces & moments, and stress results.

    • 868334 ASME NB: Pressure term calculations use maximum D/t from header and branch instead of header only

For ASME NB code, equation 9 pressure term calculations for a tee point uses the maximum D/t from the Header and Branch pipes. ASME NB requires using D/t ratio of the header pipe for the pressure term calculations. Using higher D/t ratio from header and branch is conservative in nature and may results in reporting higher stress value than the actual stress value required by ASME NB.

    • 984561 Axial pressure force may not be used when calculating longitudinal pressure force for Hydrotest load combination

Axial pressure force may not be included in longitudinal pressure stress calculations for Hydrotest code combination. Although the pressure case is included in the Hydrotest combination, however, the axial pressure force value is not accounted for when calculating the longitudinal pressure stress value.

    • 1054789 Flange Check: Capability to assign flange corrosion for flange design is not available

As required by ASME VIII Division 1, Mandatory Appendix 2, section 2-1(b), all calculations shall be made on dimensions in the corroded condition. AutoPIPE's flange check analysis does not support consideration of corrosion allowable on flanges.
