Error "The model you are about to open as last modified in a newer version..." message appears in AutoPIPE, why?

    Applies To
    Product(s): AutoPIPE
    Version(s): ALL;
    Area: open
    Date Logged
    & Current Version
    Nov 2019
    12.02.00.14

    Problem:

When trying to open a AutoPIPE model the following occurs?

Why and how to avoid it?

    Solution:

Newer version of AutoPIPE can always open a model generated by an older version, because the program has coding to correctly update the older data into the newer database format

However, it is vitally important that users NEVER opens a model that was created by a newer version directly in an older version. The older database format will not know how to import a newer model database as it may have a completely different format. The moment that a user opens an model generated by a newer version directly in an older version of AutoPIPE the model will become corrupted. Even if just to look. Again the very moment the model is open the model could become corrupted. It may not appear corrupted, and everything may be working OK, but analysis results should NOT be trusted.

The proper procedure is to open the model in the newer version of AutoPIPE and use File> Save As.. > select a version format to save back to. This will append a version number to the file name helping user to quickly identify that this model was created by a newer version and save back to an earlier version.

    Avoidance:

    There are only 2 options:

    1. Upgrade your version of the AutoPIPE to be the same or higher than that used to create the model

    or

    2. Open the file in the newer version and use File> Save As.> select a version format the same or lower than that of the version wanting to open the model.

After converting the file to an older format, always answer yes to the following pop-up dialogs and review the warning messages

    Note:

    1. all accounts except Non-select are eligible for free upgrades to newer software. If you have a Non-Select account, please contact Bentley Sales for a quote on upgrading to new software.

    2. Why use older software

    3. The results will be different
