The following was displayed while using AutoPIPE:
Connection with the Licensing Server has been lost.
Continued use of this product my cause product usage in
excess of the limits set by your administrator.
It is recommended that you save the model and restart the program to obtain a new license.
Why is this appearing?
How to avoid it?
As mentioned by the message, the connection between your computer and the Bentley Server was lost. This can be caused by any number of issue; internal computer malfunction, power outage, IT operations, updated security settings, Bentley Servers issue, personally once a mouse ate my internet cable, etc.. When starting AutoPIPE, the application goes to out to see if a license has been checked out to the computer. If a license was not checked out, AutoPIPE will then use CONNECTION Client to confirm that you are logged and then through BLT (Bentley Licensing Tool) check your entitlements to see if you are allowed to use a license for the application (ex. AutoPIPE).
BLT keeps track of all the licenses used by a company and compares that against their contract. While the total number of licenses used by a company and its employees remains below the agreed upon contract count there is no additional charges. However once the count exceeds the agreed upon count an invoice will be sent at the end of the term for the amount of over usage.
Again, BLT and CONNETION Client are responsible for entitlements and total number of license used by a company at any one period of time. If communication are lost between the user's computer and Bentley Servers, the applications will still perform their duties and account for anyone using the applications. Once communication were restored between the user and Bentley Servers, the applications will transmit and sync up any usage during the black out.
The message mentioned above is a warning to the user that during the blackout there is the potential for additional people to start using an application that will result in over using the number of license as mentioned on the their contract. Thus resulting in an end of the term invoice. Furthermore, any license alerting set up on the account would not function during the black out period. Therefore why the message stresses the urgency to try and re-establish communication between the user's computer and Bentley Server's as quickly as possible.
Again, the only way to fix this issue it to track down and fix anything (application settings, physical equipment, etc..) preventing communication between your computer and Bentley Servers.
Note, check WIKI here to see if there is any kind of outage on Bentley's end that might explain a possible disconnect.
