How to model Pipe End Cap using AutoPIPE?
Remember Bentley AutoPIPE like all other stress programs uses 1-D finite elements which use simple Beam element center-line based theory (see general info here). Think about it this way, each pair of node points that are connected establishes a beam element. All of the loads are applied to that single beam. All of the loads, restraint, and movement are transferred to connected components. As of March 2022, these beams have no concept of fluid flow. Therefore, to model a pipe end cap is easy, just model a length of pipe that equals the weight of the pipe cap or be a little more conservative and model the total length of a cap. This may account for more weight, but should not be significant in the grand scheme of things. Then model your type of cap connection (ex. welded, threaded, socket, etc..), as needed.
