AutoPIPE Vessel License Consolidation

In 2023, significant changes will be made to the way AutoPIPE Vessel products are licensed. Below is an overview of these changes.

What is changing?

Previously, AutoPIPE Vessel was offered as the following individual products:

Effective in 2023, design codes will no longer be sold or licensed as separate products and the products and design codes will be consolidated as follows:

Current Product Name

New Product Name

AutoPIPE Vessel Pressure Vessel

AutoPIPE Vessel (now with Design Codes included)

AutoPIPE Vessel Ultimate

AutoPIPE Vessel Ultimate (with Design Codes still included)

AutoPIPE Vessel Heat Exchanger

AutoPIPE Vessel Heat Exchanger (now with Design Codes included)

AutoPIPE Design Codes:

  • USA ASME VIII
  • British BS PD 5500
  • French CODAP
  • German AD-Merkblatter
  • European EN 13445
  • Russian GOST R 52857 / GOST 34233
  • Chinese GB 150

AutoPIPE Vessel, AutoPIPE Vessel Ultimate, or AutoPIPE Vessel Heat Exchanger (all design codes are now included in these three products and are no longer sold separately)

Going forward, AutoPIPE Vessel and AutoPIPE Vessel Heat Exchange licenses will give users access to all design codes.  AutoPIPE Vessel Ultimate will continue to include all design codes.

Perpetual licenses under SELECT and Virtuoso subscriptions continue to be available for AutoPIPE Vessel, AutoPIPE Vessel Ultimate, and AutoPIPE Vessel Heat Exchanger. For enterprise accounts (E365/EPS 365 and ELS), only AutoPIPE Vessel Ultimate is available.

Who is affected by this change?

This has no impact on accounts who have access to AutoPIPE Vessel Ultimate only, as this product previously included all design codes. It does, however, affect those accounts using either AutoPIPE Vessel and/or AutoPIPE Vessel Heat Exchanger with or without AutoPIPE Vessel Ultimate.

How does this change affect existing contracts and license entitlements?

Rather than choosing a free code pack (plus any additional code packs) and selecting them from the license configuration tool, the code packs have been removed.  There is a single AutoPIPE Vessel download from software downloads and now only three (3) valid license options with the AutoPIPE Vessel 2023 release.

Accounts purchasing new AutoPIPE Vessel perpetual licenses (that can include up to 6 additional design codes costing more than $5k each), will see a price increase equivalent to 60% of the cost of adding one additional code. This will ripple through to the SELECT, Virtuoso, and Term License price. Only existing perpetual license holders using the free included code pack, and no additional ones, will see any additional increase under SELECT. Anyone paying for one or more additional codes will see a reduction.

AutoPIPE Vessel and AutoPIPE Vessel Heat Exchanger will no longer be available for ELS and E365/EPS 365 subscribers. Accounts will have to use AutoPIPE Ultimate moving forward, which includes all the functionality of both individual products and all code packs. All accounts with licenses of AutoPIPE Vessel Ultimate remain unaffected by this consolidation.

Any accounts using AutoPIPE Vessel Heat Exchanger will be provided with access to all code packs. There is no additional charge for this upgrade.

All products will be subject to the yearly price has increased effective April 1, 2023.

Why is this change being made?

This consolidation is part of a Bentley initiative to simplify our product portfolio and improve the buying and user experience for our products. Users were having to manage a mixture of editions with multiple code packs, and risked additional charges by switching between them. Some were wrongly adding codes when they already had AutoPIPE Vessel Ultimate. Virtuoso subscription users had to acquire multiple copies of AutoPIPE Vessel to use different codes, thus increasing their cost. This way of licensing the program created considerable confusion. Often there were questions about what was included and what wasn’t. There was inadvertent use of modules for which the account owned no licenses and confusion where to select the different code packs on download. This consolidation should eliminate those problems going forward.

What is the value of this change for AutoPIPE Vessel users?

For many of our users, the old licensing scheme was confusing. What was included with what licenses? What licenses were necessary for what the user was trying to do? This license consolidation simplifies it for everyone – you now own a single product with all of its capabilities and will not be charged separately or overcharged for inadvertent code pack use.  In addition, the new simplified billing will help you better understand the impact on project costs.

Does this change affect configuration of AutoPIPE Vessel license usage alerts?

CONNECT licensing allows you to set threshold limits to trigger warnings when you are about to overuse a license. However, following this consolidation, you should reset the threshold limits for this new license based on your new entitlements, even if you had previously set the threshold limits for the individual modules, otherwise, your engineers will not be notified when they are about to overuse the number of licenses that you are entitled to. For more information on how to update these threshold limits in the Subscription Entitlement Service (SES) Entitlement Management center, please see the Communities post below.

We strongly advise account admins to reset these threshold limits before installing and running AutoPIPE Vessel 2023. Note that because the quarterly term license fees (the overuse charges) are now based on the new AutoPIPE Vessel license price rather than on the old license price, overuse fees will be larger than in the past. Protect yourself against unintended overuse by properly setting the threshold limits.
