02-03.b: Import MS Excel or AutoCAD DWG / DXF into AutoPIPE?

    Comments, Questions, and Answers:

Item #1: Can AutoPIPE import a AutoCAD DWG or DXF file?

    Answer:

The quick answer is No, AutoPIPE can not import a DXF or DWG file format directly. However, AutoPIPE V8i v.9.5 and lower can copy-clip X-Y-Z coordinates into the input grids. While AutoPIPE V8i v.9.6 and higher can actually import an specially formatted MS Excel file generated directly from AutoCAD 2012 and higher.

    Note:

    1. Import cannot exceed the current 10,000 node point limitation.

    2. After importing the lines into AutoPIPE, all node points will be connected by straight runs of pipe. Use the power of node selection and Modify> Convert Point to> Bend, to change the proper node points into bends. Afterwards, use the input grids, Bend tab, to set the bend's radius and other settings.

    1. AutoPIPE V8i v9.6 and higher:

    See the following document:

Import AutoCAD file into AutoPIPE V8i 09.06.xx.xx and higher

    2. AutoPIPE V8i v9.5 and lower:

See the following video and attached document:

    b. Import AutoCAD file into AutoPIPE V8i 09.05.xx.xx and lower

    Note:

    1. import cannot exceed the current 10,000 node point limitation (AutoPIPE V8i 09.06.01.10 and lower)..

    2. After importing the lines into AutoPIPE, all node points will be connected by straight runs of pipe. Use the power of node selection and Modify> Convert Point to> Bend, to change the proper node points into bends. Afterwards, use the input grids, Bend tab, to set the bend's radius and other settings.

Item #2: How to import the following coordinates into AutoPIPE: Local, Global, AutoCAD, Microstation?

Item #3 How to Copy / Paste data from MS Excel to any tab in AutoPIPE's input grid?
