How to Place a Spec driven welded Spool Piece in OpenPlant Modeler

In OpenPlant Modeler, welded spool piece is required to place it inside the model.

Background

In context with users requirement, below steps will aid them to have the welded pipe length to be placed inside OpenPlant Modeler, which could also be driven by spec. User need to enter the data in spec gen or may use MDB file and copy one existing pipe and create a new entry to it. 

Steps to Accomplish

  1. Launch OpenPlant Specification Generator & select project unit. Say Metric here.

  2. Choose to load catalog Editor through File menu option.



  3. Open Catalog Editor.

  4. Select catalog “ASME.mdb” file. 



  5. Select table “PIPE” from dropdown option.



  6. For Smooth workflow filter the data as per requirement or the Size, user wanted to enter. Here example has been shown for size 100mm. Copy first entry like shown in below image.



  7. Paste one entry to it like shown in below image.



  8. Change the EC_CLASS_NAME from PIPE to SPOOL_PIECE.



  9. Also set the COMP_LEN value to 6000 like shown in below image. 



  10. Close the Class Editor, as it will automatically save the data. 



  11. Open Spec, say mEX-OPM file. Enter SPOOL_PIECE entry under PIPE section like shown in below image.



  12. Save and close Specification Generator.

  13. Launch OpenPlant Modeler, select project unit say Metric here.

  14. Under Piping tab, select Spool piece to place. 



  15. From Spec Grid option, user may select the spool with a BW end type and a length of 6000 mm as entered in spec. 





  16. If user wanted to place a 20 Meter long pipe, and expect to get weld break points as per spec record, then he should select the spool piece instead and set the Total length to model in space.

  17. To achieve it, Check “ON” enable option under Auto-Placement tab and enter the length 20000 mm to get a total length of 20 Meter and click on space.
