Has anyone received the following error message when placing a component (elbow from Spears catalog) in Openplant?

  • Object reference not set to an instance of an object. stacktrace: at Bentley.bulding.mechanical.components.port.getinvalue ( string propname) at Bentley.building.mechanical.components.port. at Bentley.building.mechanical fittingplacementtool.createcomponent at Bentley.building.mechanical.noninlineplacmenttool._ondatabutton (object sender, buttonevnetargs e)
  • Hi,

Could you please provide some background on this issue? Is this happening with your custom spec? What are the steps to reproduce? what kind of elbow it is?

However, message seems to indicate an issue with ports.

  • Hello,

Are you using the default catalog? Could you pleas let us know the version for OpenPlant Modeler? Also it would be great if you write few steps while placement.

    Thanks in Advance!

  • Hi Harpeet,
I am using out of the box specs. The Spears catalog for this design small bore pipe 3" and below. I have used Plantspace since 2002 and Openplant since last year. I have not had any issues like this one before, I am questioning a model referenced in from the structural group using Prostructures and AECOsims both from Bentley I would not think there any compatibility issues?

  • Hi Rahul,
I am using Openplant Modeler V8i (Selectseries 5) Version 08.11.09.440 As I mentioned the earlier post I am using out of the box the Spears Catalog. In routing pipe instead of placing an elbow in some cases it will stop pipe being placed. Then I try to just place an elbow at the end of the pipe and receive the error message. I have tried using an intelligent line string to place a pipe run. Still the same issues. Since I have 13 years experience with Plantspace and did create catalogs I even tried creating a Disticts spec with the Spears catalog in Openplant because at this point I am constantly being kicked out of the system. Since I had no issues with a previous design in Openplant I am wondering if a reference model created by the structural group is the issue. Their first model in AECOsims would not let me open an Openplant model with the structural model was referenced in so I had to open in Microstation and then detach. Structural then created a model with Prostructure I was able to open in Openplant but had some issues so detached. I have no references files in my current model all pipe placed are from the out of box spears catalog and still have the problem of placing a 3/4";1" and 3" elbow.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks in advance,
    Maria
