Promis-e V8i, symbols do not line up on gridlines

In the previous version of promis-e you were able to grab a symbol anywhere, drag it a little and let go. The symbol would then 'snap' to the correct grid so that the connection points line up correctly. In the new version however it is possible to get the symbol a little bit off of the grid, where the wires will not connect to the connection points anymore. Anyone else see this?

Also, I'm not sure if it's related or not, but  ever time I open a page the grid button is reset to .05 (the grid is still at .025 however). I've tried verifying that the grid is .25 when placing a symbol and I can still create the above situation.

  • I might be seeing what you are seeing.  My guess is that you are snapping to geometry when the symbol goes off grid.  When you drag a symbol, the symbol in its original position is shown along with the destination symbol and it is possible to snap to geometry on the original position, or other symbols as well.  In earlier versions, when you snapped to geometry it would just jump back to the nearest grid point (as you describe). Historically, dragging symbols to move them always fell into the "not recommended" category.

The other behavior that might be contributing is that if you move a symbol while a small grid spacing is active and then switch to a larger spacing, the symbol may not be on the larger grid.  And then when you move the symbol, it will move in increments of this larger grid but still remain off (the larger) grid.

It should be noted that this discussion is for promis.e on MicroStation/PowerDraft.

This is what I was thinking. I wasn't sure why this would be removed/changed. I'm starting to get used to it, it just adds a few more clicks or a little more time when you try to move something.

  • Hi, you might find it is best to turn off accusnap and accudraw, as I have found that these microstation features can quite easily take the symbols you are dragging around just off grid. I often see this in training, when there is a fresh install where these tools are still active.

For Accudraw, go to settings accudraw, then de-select the autoload option. that will mean that you can close it withour it constantly re-appearing.

Accusnap can be turned off via its icon in the bottom bar.

as we work on a grid in 2d within promis-e, you can safely and efficiently work without these features enabled.

  • Thanks for the reply. I'll try this out and let you know.

Basically once you get used to it, you can find some workarounds. I just stopped dragging alltogether, and I have been using the promis-e 'move' function more.
