Showing Equipment on Multiple OPPID drawings

Hello...I was wondering if anyone had any solutions or insight with respect to being able to show the same equipment tag on multiple P&IDs in an OPPID project. There are 2 quick examples where this would occur;

- Heaters and exchangers...these would need to show on things like a Glycol P&ID but also an HVAC specific P&ID as well

- If you want to manage both PFDs and P&IDs in the same project

The short question is, is this possible?  Can you have a single equipment tag, but in the database/reporting, show it as showing up on multiple drawings? This would be very useful and immediately expand our usage of OPPID on projects in our company.  Thanks.

  • Hi Austin,

Thanks for posting your query on Plant Forum.

From above requirement, what we understood here is you want specific tag number let's say EQ-001 for multiple drawings like Test1.dgn,Test2.dgn etc.

Also, we would like to clear few queries here, you have mentioned about Glycol P&ID and HVAC P&ID, so our question here is are these different projects or the drawings in single project?

If they are different projects with same project unit, then defining and populating specific tag is possible.

Can you please confirm if this is the exact requirement?

  • Hi Nikhil,

"what we understood here is you want specific tag number let's say EQ-001 for multiple drawings like Test1.dgn,Test2.dgn etc. " - CORRECT

"so our question here is are these different projects or the drawings in single project?" - MULTIPLE DRAWINGS IN A SINGLE PROJECT

As for..."If they are different projects with same project unit, then defining and populating specific tag is possible.", I'm not sure what you mean by 'different project units'. When I refer to a project, I am meaning in a system environment. I.e. one setup of OPPID (and Data Manager for that matter). I.e. a single ProjDB managing everything.  The idea being that EQ-001 is entered once, and can be used many times.

I hope that clears things up.

    Cheers,

    Austin.

  • Thanks for the response Austin.

The concern which you have raised, needs detail investigation. We will test this concern at our end first and let you know the result. But before we start our investigation, we would like to request you to log an SR for this. Can you please do the needful?
Please let us know if you have any queries, we will be glad to assist you.

  • Hi Nikhil,

Will do. Just finished talking to the disciplines on their needs and will hopefully send the detailed SR by end of day today.

    Cheers,

    Austin.

  • Hello. We have been dealing with the same issue yo have for a couple of months. You shouldn't duplicate the bim element (ex: heat exchanger) since you are always referring to the same equipment and that would be misleading for information management purposes (different elements have different guids and keytags although you can allow the tag to be non-unique). You should reference the equipment onto the second p&id, clip the reference by element and connect it.

    Hope this helps.

    Kind regards,
