Place Flow_Orifice_Plate without the Flange Set?

Hi everybody,

I was wondering if there is a possibility to place an Orifice Plate without the corresponding flange set.

For example if I want to place an orifice directly to an nozzle on a tank.

Also I would like to able to use the “normal” flanges of my specification when using an orifice plate, so that I do not have to keep track of both the normal flanges and the Orifice Flanges. I think it is nice to have the possibility to make them different from the normal flanges, but most of the time we do not need that feature, because the dimensions of the orifice flanges will just be the same as for the normal pipeline flanges.

I noticed that it is possible to place a flange set first and then delete one flange and one gasket. This helps a bit when placing an orifice to a “dumb” MicroStation equipment, but what I would like best would be the possibility to just place a normal flange, then adding an orifice plate to it (gasket between them gets placed automatically, like when I attach two flanges to one another).

  • Hello Florian,

Thanks for posting your concern to plant forum.

Did you create a new class for Orifice Plate in schemas & want to place them manually?

or you want to place a Plate Flange without flange sets so that plate flange can be placed against any flanged component?

  • Hello Deepak,
I did not create a new class for orifice plates.
I would like to be able to place an orifice plate only, without the flange-set.
But this orifice plate should have the intelligence that it recognizes other flanges / flanged components.
My ideal workflow would look somehow similar to this:
    1. I am creating a pipeline. From the pressure nozzle of a pump to a nozzle at a tank.
    2. An orifice plate will be used. This plate should sit directly on top of the nozzle of the tank.
    3. So the order of components, starting from the pump and going to the tank should be like this:
    - flange connectiong with pump
    - pipeline
    - flange
    - orifice plate (with an automatically placed gasket on the side which is connected to a flange)
    - nozzle of the tank
I think it would be a nice way if the orifice plate could be placed kind of like a valve can be placed.
When I place a (flanged) valve (ball valve for example) at the end of a pipeline a flange and a gasket are automatically placed on the end of the pipeline, then the valve is placed connected to that flange and on the other side of the valve it is an "open end" with no further connection to anything. If I continue the pipeline on the "open end" of the valve, a flange and a gasket are placed.
Could we achieve the same behaviour with an orifice plate?
I try to attach a little video of the behaviour of a ball valve. I would like to have the same behaviour with an orifice plate and be able to place a single orifice plate to an flange. I hear it was possible in the V8i, is that right?
