Dialog boxes not matching tutorials

I am going through some of the OpenPlant PID online video tutorials, and my dialog boxes do not pop up like the training ones do. What do I need to do?

  • Hello Voilet,

Thanks for posting your query in Bentley Technical Forum. Would you be able to provide us with an image so that we can analyze it?

  • Thank you for responding so quickly! Here are 2 images, one shows the Instrument Gallery, with everything except for Loop Button (I can't find it anywhere else either) and when I click on run pipe, the pipe gallery does not show up for me to pick what type of pipe to run.

  • Hello Violet,

What version of OpenPlant PID are you running? 10.xx.xx.xx.

Pipe Runs are not Pipelines. The Pipelines set the type of line - IE Major, Minor, etc. If you select Pipeline (and depending on the CONNECT Edition Update you are running - Update 6 and Older, or Update 7) you will see the following.

Update 6 and Older: Select Pipeline, Then from the Component Gallery, select the line type you want to insert - Major, Minor etc. You will then be shown and prompted to add a pipeline number and fill in pertinent information such as Size, Spec, Unit, Area etc. Once you click OK in the Pipeline tagging dialog, you can draw the pipeline in the drawing. NOTE: A Pipe Run is also created for each pipeline. This is based on the STEP/ISO standard of a Pipeline with one or more Pipe Runs. To explain this further, route a pipeline - a single straight line. If you insert a reducer in this line, a new RUN will be created with the new SIZE. You will have a single Pipeline with 2 Pipe Runs.

Update 7: You need to define the Line type and name BEFORE you draw the pipeline. Select Pipeline from the Ribbon. Note you DO NOT have the choice to select the type of line in the Component Gallery. If you load the Standard Preferences. Standard Preferences are found in the Ribbon under Piping>Tools>Preferences. After the Standard Preferences loads, look for the Pipeline section. Here you set the Pipeline TYPE and Pipeline Name. After setting/creating a new Pipeline Name, you can then pick the Pipeline tool from the Ribbon and draw the pipeline in the drawing.

In update 7, you can use the Pipe Run tool, BUT, the inserted pipe run MUST start from an existing Pipeline. In Update 7, a Pipe Run cannot exist without a defined pipeline tag.

    I hope this helps,

  • I just installed OPPID 2 weeks ago and I am using the Connect Edition. How you described update 7 is how I have been doing it. I liked how the tutorial showed you select pipe run and then select the type of line in the gallery pipeline and the dialog box popped up.

How do I create an instrument loop in my version. I cannot find the loop button or command anywhere.

    Thank you!
