If there a way to set the max pipe length that a pipe can be modelled?

  • Hi Sean,

Thankyou for contacting Bentley Technical Support Group.

Could you please provide more info on this part so that I can investigate if its possible or note.

  • We are using piping which has a max. production length through racks and it would be nice if we could draw the length and have it place at a max length instead of having to model each piece to its max length manually. Just looking for ways to speed up the process.

  • Hi Sean,

Apologies I totally missed your requirement but Currently we don't have this type of feasibility to restrict the drawing of Piping as per max pipe length. .

Incase if you could raise the SR then we can log an Enhancement for such type and also can work upon it accordingly for any possible outcome.

  •  My understanding is that you want to be able to draw say 100' of pipe but have it place separate 20' spools because thats what vendor can provide. If I am understanding the question correctly there are a couple ways to achieve the end result.

quickest method is to just draw the 100' line then got to "Break Components" Icon (Q2 in menu). In break dialog change option to Standard and set 20' then click on the 100' pipe. you will then see welds placed every 20'.

Second way I'm doing from memory so I might miss a step but I recall that you can set a max length in the pipe spec for "Pipe Spools". This is different class than pipe and what we use for bell end pipe but should work with 2 plain ends as well. Then in models use the "Place spool Piece" icon (e3).

  • Checked with team member that spends more time in the tools than me. He showed me the second method isn't as clean as I had stated. you can set a spool length in the spec and then when you place them, enable the Auto-placement option and keyin total length you are looking for. then select start point and direction and they will be auto placed. so not quit as easy as dragging out the length. other thing they pointed out is that by default these will show in the iso BOM as a count of spools rather than linear feet. may help or hurt depending what you are looking for.

  • no idea why first 20seconds is blank when I upload this but this is basic vid of the 2 options.

  • Thanks very much for the feedback Kris, plenty of food for thought.
