has anyone experienced this issue?
I've created a custom component (valve) but when I am placing it using the place from cell and placing it in a space, it doesn't seem possible to orient the valve vertically.
Is there a technique to follow in defining the origin and connect points in order for this vertical orientation to work?

As far as I know you can't. I always rotate it manually. For an example I have made cell library for our team from wich we use pipe supports, and it connects to the pipe always horizontaly. My advice would be just rotate the item manualy
