Bolts Help

I really need help with the bolt function in PlantSpace...

For starters, I have bolts in the specifications as well as indicated in flange databases.  When I run the Object Reporter & Bolts Troubleshooter, I get a generic bolt,  1,  1,   MACH,  1

Am I missing a setting somewhere in the databases?  Does the Bolt machine look at the spec bolts or the bolts for individual flanges separately?

 Any help is much appreciated.

 Rgds,  Lisa.

  • What version of PlantSpace are you using?

In the XM version, there is chapter in the DSadmin.ref manual that covers off Bolts, and how to configure them.  It also covers off the Bolt Creation process, and what it is doing.

When you ran the Bolts trouble shooter, it should create a new JSM file (Bolts_name.jsm) that you can open with the JClass Editor.  Scroll to the bottom, and you should see Bolt_Component, Bolt_Connetion and Bolt_Assembly.  Opening each of these up should give you a clue as to what the system is finding and using to create the Bolt_Assembly.

The Bolts Engine is only used during the Object Reporter or Create ISO process, as they never exist in the model, but use a number of Rules to determine which Bolts to use in weach situation.

  • I'm using V8 XM.  I've followed the section on configuring bolts but I cannot get the object reported to spit out a list of accurate bolts.  At this point, I have no idea what I am missing.

To make things worse, all of the reports in Object Reporter are failing to show up for me.  (probably a different problem)

I opened the bolts_*.jsm file in the jclass editor, there are only two fields listed that related to bolts.  Both are Bolt_Connection.  there is no component or assembly.  Do you have any idea what I may be missing?

  • Hi LisaJean,

Can you provide a bit more information?

    • Which XM version are you using?
    • Did you build the project database from scratch or migrate it from a previous version?
    • What type of flanged components are you modeling and what Standard was selected?
    • Is this an Imperial or SI project?

    Thanks,

    Ian Robinson

  • hi LisaJean

can you let me which build of of PSDS V8 XM you are using 0809434 or 08090444?

you can follow this steps to create a Bolt JSM file.

    1. place a pipe.

    2. Place a flange-gasket and flange gasket assembly components.

    3. create a JSM file .

    4. launch Bolt troubleshooter.

    5. Select  the created JSM file.

    6. create a bolt .JSM file  by clicking ok button of Bolt toubleshooter dialog.

    7. Now you can launch JSpace Class Editor and open the created Bolt JSM file.

you able to see components like Bolt_Connection, Bolt_Components, Bolt_Assembly.

and if you select any of these compponents you can see the all property value related to bolt.

    Thanks

    Saurabh

  • I'm not sure of the build, where can I find that info?

I followed the procedure for pipe, flange/gask/flange, pipe.  The bolt JSM file indicates that the CREATES_BOLTS property is false.  I thought that anything with a FL end-prep gives a TRUE value for CREATES_BOLTS.    Now, if I change this value to true in the ams_user.lib file, I need to update that ams.lib, correct?

What happens when ams.lib is updated?  I am afraid to sychronize this file because of some "spur of the moment" changes we have made directly to the database files (rather than editing data files & loading)  If ams.lib is sychronized, will it also reload all of the project data files?  This may cause problems.

Our pipe specs were created from scratch  (and copy/paste) of the catolog specs.  Also, we have created FRP specifications from scratch.  None of the bolts are being generated, not even for the catolog piping.
