Help for ducts isometrics

Good morning at all,
I work in the marine department of an engineering company and we use PlantSpace to model ducts and piping inside the HVAC stations we coordinate.

Usually we put 2D views (extracted from the 3D model) to lay out our studies, and Object Reporter to extract the fabrication materials list of piping.

However, this time we need to provide isometrics of every piping and duct  and so I try to use AutoISOGEN.

I succeed in making isometrics for piping, but the problem is that the above-mentioned software doesn't work with ducts.

At the same time, I need to extract the components list for ducts.

Does anyone could help me to find a solution? Do I have to use another software or are there some settings which accomplish my purpose?

  • Hi Alessandro,

I remember doing this for Cable Trays WITH AutoPLANT.  I guess if the PCF out is not open to extension then there will be no possibility.  Of course you could also create an Isometric view using the view methods.  May provide some benefit.

  • Hi Glen,

I would like to thank you for your kindly reply.

If I understand well, you think the AutoISOGEN provided with PlantSpace is not suitable to fulfill my needs.

Furthermore, I notice that some elements in modelled pipes (i.e. some tipes of joints) are not recognised by the AutoISOGEN when exporting the isometric and so the program fails.

Do you think I can compensate at least this problem or you suggest me to use the old (and traditional) view methods?

  • Alessandro,

I am sorry I would need a PlantSpace expert to answer that question.

    Glen

  • The interface between PlantSpace and AutoISOGEN as delivered, does not handle the situation you are considering.

The product could be configured to handle this, but you are looking at a lot of work and historically we did not have many requests to warrant the time required to provide this feature.

Modifications to Class Libraries and other files in PlantSpace to accomodate and extract the information required, modifications to AutoISOGEN to accept the information and produce the isometrics as requested.   Some of the work done previously with  the AutoPLANT interface to AutoISOGEN maybe able to be re-used on the AutoISOGEN side, but until time is spent to examine what was done that cannot be determined.

You may want to contact your Account Manager to investigate if our Services organization can assist you in the project.

  • Hi Glen and Alan,

I think the better way is to contact the Account Manager, as Alan says, to investigate if someone can assist me in my project.

I would like to thank you for your valuable help.
