Autoplant and Projectwise integration

We're just about the embark down the road of Projectwise and one of the concerns that has come up is how it handles Autoplant projects.

Right now we are creating a new SQL databases for each Autoplant project. Reading the PW integration procedures it sounds like we can continue creating new Autoplant databases but we would also need to create a new PW datasource for each project.  Is this correct?  If so, is there a better way to keep all projects under a single datasource?

  • This is not currently possible.
If you use projects in ProjectWise, the integration component will force you to use multi-project mode and vice-versa.
It is best if you have this decided before setting things up, as your choices in the early stages of configuration will lock you in to one or the other.
What multi proj mode does essentially (for AutoPLANT) is to add a projid column to the tables. This is used to keep data in the tables project specific. The project number is also used by the AP-PW integration to map what AutoPLANT project is associated with what PW project, as well as database connectivity settings.
  • Hello Joey, we are in the same situation as dm2013. I have not been able to find any reference material on how to set-up multiple autoplant projects within a single projectwise data source. Currently we have to set up a new projectwise data source and sql database for each autoplant project. It would be preferred to have a separate sql database for each autoplant project but all in a single projectwise data source (one AP database in each projectwise "project" under a data source), is that an option? if so is there a document that outlines how to do it? Maybe multimode can help but I cant find much information on how it functions, we don't want the database or autoplant settings shared from one project to another.
  • Multiple projects can be placed in a single Project wise Data source like how multiple AutoPLANT projects can be placed in single SQL database using the multi proj feature.  In fact AutoPLANT project database can be put in the Projectwise database but most users have separate Project wise and AutoPLANT databases.
