How to Convert AutoCAD Drawing Template File as Default Seed File

Background

In AutoPLANT modeler most of the companies use their standard template for generating Isometric. OPIM uses default seed file (isoseed.dgn) as template for generating isometric. Any file with extension excluding .DGN will not support it. 

Following steps will aid user for converting existing dwg template to default seed file.

Steps to Accomplish

Open Default Seed.dgn File.

  1. Navigate to project directory. See below example used for default metric project
    C:\ProgramData\Bentley\Plant V8i\Bentley Plant V8i\Projects\SAMPLE_METRIC\Config\OpenPlant\Isometrics\styles\IFC\config

  2. Make a copy default isoseed.dgn which comes during installation as a backup
  3. Open project administrator and click on ‘OpenPlant Isometrics’ tab
  4. Click ‘Create and Modify’ tab
  5. Open seed file. Refer below screen shot

Copy Graphics from AutoCAD Template to Seed.dgn File.

  1.  Once seed file open, go to File>Open, Navigate to path and select template dwg file.
  2. Copy all graphics from existing template dwg file as shown below.

  3. Now press the highlighted arrow as shown in above image to open isoseed.dgn.
  4. Paste the graphic here.


  5. Scale the sheet as per requirement.  

Define Drawing Area and Move Text nodes. 

  1. Define drawing area as shown below.


  2. Define new area for drawing.


  3. Click on text node.

  4. Move existing text nodes as per desired attribute location. See below sample.
  5. Click file>Save settings.
  6. Save the file as isoseed.dgn and verify results.
