Overview

To remove gasket from joints for flanged components in OpenPlant Modeler and then to OpenPlant Isometrics Manager. Refer case-1 for it. However to consider both ways to use the placement of flanges, please refer case-2 described below.

Problem Description

In OpenPlant Modeler, user wanted to display only bolts for flanged connection and wanted to remove GASKETS from joints. Using schema modification user should be able to get the flanged connection without Gasket and also able to generate isometrics without it. Below are the steps user could check. This has been described in context with OpenPlant Modeler and OpenPlant Isometrics Manager.

Case 1: To not include Gasket for Flanged Component

Steps to Resolve

  1. In Class Editor, open “OpenPlant_3D.01.04.ecschema” and supplement it with “OpenPlant_3D_Supplemental_Modeling.01.04.ecschema”.
  2. Navigate to JOINT Class.
  3. Go to “OpenPlant_Physical_JointType_Map” custom attribute and check Joint Type [3] as “FLANGE_JOINT”.
  4. Expand “Fastener” field and right click on Fastener [1] to remove element (This is Important). See image below.

Note - Please be careful while removing field. Only Deleting its value and leaving Empty Field may leads to error in Modelling.

  5. Save and Close Schema.
  6. Launch OpenPlant Modeler, select project.
  7. Place a pipe and place a mating flange on it.
  8. Notice only BOLTS get placed.

  9. Run Connectivity Checker to test the connectivity.
  10. From pipeline Manager, create isosheet.
  11. Publish I dgn file.
  12. Launch OpenPlant Isometrics Manager and check the results.
  13. Generate Isometrics and see information on labels and in BOM.

Case 2: To include Gasket & Non-Gasket Fastener as an Inline Placement

Steps to Resolve

  1. In Class Editor, open “OpenPlant_3D.01.07. ecschema” and supplement it with “OpenPlant_3D_Supplemental_Modeling.01.07. ecschema”.

  2. Navigate to JOINT Class.
  3. Go to “OpenPlant_Physical_JointType_Map” custom attribute and right click on Joint Type and select Add element to create a new joint type as shown below.

  4. Enter the details as shown below.

Notice that Fastener type gasket is not defined here.

  5. Save all the settings & verify the result in OpenPlant Modeler as shown below.

Flanged arrangement with joint type as FLANGE_JOINT as shown below.

Flanged arrangement with joint type as FLANGE_JOINT_WGKT as shown below.

For FLANGE_JOINT, fastener will include gasket & stud bolts whereas for FLANGE_JOINT_WGKT, fastener won’t include gasket as shown below.

  6. Also Check Bolt Length placed without gasket as shown below.

  7. Result in OpenPlant Isometrics Manager as shown below.
