Background

Currently, when we try to connect a small bore pipe to a large bore pipe, Openplant automatically places a concentric reducer. But if user want to place eccentric reducer through auto-fitting what are the changes required will be discussed in this article.

Steps to Accomplish

  1. Go to \\Workspace\OPModeler\System folder and open AutoFittingRules.xml file in notepad or any text editor tool.

  2. Scroll down and locate transition condition in Piping discipline.

  3. Replace the class name CONCENTRIC_PIPE_REDUCER with ECCENTRIC_PIPE_REDUCER in the first row.

  4. Save the changes and relaunch OpenPlant Modeler so that changes can take place in the new session.

  5. To verify the result, place a pipe with 8" Diameter.

  6. Now change the size to 6" in Standard Preference dialog.

  7. Route the pipe from 8" pipe but before placement, change the placement point to Bottom of Pipe in component dialog.

NOTE: This is very CRITICAL step, because if placement point is not changed to bottom of pipe, placement will fail.

  8. Eccentric reducer will be placed automatically while routing with flat side down.

If you want to place the reducer with flat side up, then you can change the placement point to "Top Of Pipe".
