    Display UDAs on Element Information

      Product(s): Bentley Raceway and Cable Management
      Version(s): 08.11.08.09 - 08.11.09.35
      Environment: N/A
      Area: Dataset
      Subarea: N/A

    How to show UDAs (User Defined Attributes) on the Element Information dialog when a raceway is selected?

    Background

    For UDAs to appear on Element Information they must be added to the schema. The following example adds the "Cover Type" UDA to the Element Information (Element > Information or CTRL+I) dialog. The procedure can be adapted to add other UDAs, including custom UDAs added in BRCM Setup > Options > UDA Settings > Raceway UDAs.

    Note: UDA names should include no spaces.

    After following this procedure then publishing an i-model of the raceway DGN file, the UDA will be displayed in the Item Browser when the i-model is opened in Bentley Navigator or other application.

    Steps to Accomplish

    1. Insert some raceway that includes the desired UDA(s) onto a DGN file.
    2. Select BRCM Tools > Object Info and select the raceway on the drawing. Left-click to Accept.
    3. Scroll down to the <UDAs> section on the Object Info dialog.

    4. Note the name of the UDA to be added to Element Information, in this case "CoverType" is the variable name for Cover Type.
    5. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the \dataset\schemas\ folder used by the project. This will be the path shown for the BRCM_WS_SCHEMAS variable in BRCM Setup > Project Manager.
    6. Copy the Electrical_RCM_ProjectProperties.01.02.ecschema.xml file to a folder outside of the dataset for backup purposes.
    7. Open Electrical_RCM_ProjectProperties.01.02.ecschema.xml in a text editor such as Notepad. Find the following line:

      <ECClass typeName="RACEWAY_ITEM" displayLabel="Raceway Item (BRCM)" isDomainClass="True" />

      and change it to:

      <ECClass typeName="RACEWAY_ITEM" displayLabel="Raceway Item (BRCM)" isDomainClass="True">

      directly underneath this line add the following lines:

          <ECProperty propertyName="COVERTYPE" typeName="string" displayLabel="Cover Type" readOnly="True" />
      </ECClass>

      If there are already property sub-items listed under the RACEWAY_ITEM class, just add the "<ECProperty..." line to the RACEWAY_ITEM class.
    8. Save the Electrical_RCM_ProjectProperties.01.02.ecschema.xml file.
    9. Restart Bentley Raceway and Cable Management.

    Subsequently inserted raceway will display values for the Cover Type property on Element Information.

    For the UDA values to populate on Element Information for raceway that has already been inserted

    1. Select BRCM Detail Design > Raceway Properties.
    2. Select the raceway to affect on the drawing, left-click to Accept
    3. Click OK on the resulting Raceway Properties Manager dialog, no changes are necessary.
