In OpenPlant Modeler, to create custom component assembly for butt weld Valve with Nipples.

Background

As per project requirement Custom valves needed to add in OpenPlant Modeler. Below steps illustrates how to create a custom assembly for a butt welded valves with Nipples placed adjacent to each port. User need to add a new class in schema, under the Valve class which exhibits same property. This can be done by placing it in OpenPlant Modeler, through ‘Create New Custom Component’ option from piping task pane, it will inherit the same property like other valve class and deliver the same results like default existing one.

Steps to Accomplish

This will execute in 3 steps:

A. Add Custom Component Attributes for a Class.

B. Adding New Valves in Spec.

C. Creation of New Valve Symbol

A.  Add Custom Component Attributes for a Class.

  1. In Class Editor, Open “OpenPlant_3D.01.06.ecschema” & Supplement it with below schema.

    OpenPlant_3D_Supplemental_Information_3DComponent.01.06.ecschema
    OpenPlant_3D_Supplemental_Isometrics_Isoextractor.01.06.ecschema
    OpenPlant_3D_Supplemental_Modeling.01.06.ecschema

  2. Navigate to VALVE class where you want to create a new Valve type. Below has been referred using GATE_VALVE and created a new valve below it. See image below.

  3. Right Click on Gate Valve & copy desired custom attribute from it.

  4. Select custom attribute to copy. See below image.

  5. Modify Symbol to “GAT_NIP” in “Isometric Component” custom attribute.

  6. Save & Close Class Editor.

B. Adding New Valves in Spec.

  1. Define new Valve in Specification Generator.

  2. Enter the End Type as Butt Weld BW.

Note User should know making entries to OpenPlant Specification Generator.

  3. Alternatively user may enter the data using MS Access file.

  4. Open Spec. Say mEX-OPM here. Go to Table VALVBW.

  5. Copy existing row and paste it below. Rename EC_CLASS_NAME to VALVE_NIPPLE & make other necessary changes. See image below.

  6. Save & Close Spec.

  7. Launch OpenPlant Modeler.

  8. Place valve Nipple using key in mechaddin place VALVE_NIPPLE dsc=piping.

  9. Place nipple with beveled end type. This will look like below.

  10. Select whole assembly & using keyin drop element.

  11. After dropping element it will look like below. Click on Create custom component.

  12. Select Valve Nipple class & Click on “Use Spec Data” option ( If Data has been entered in spec).

  13. Attach Pipe & generate I model for Isometrics.

C. Creation of New Valve Symbol

  1. Launch OpenPlant Isometrics Manager.

  2. Select Style, say Check here.

  3. Open Seed File.

  4. From Isoextractor Menu, click on Cell creation tool, select Valve template dgn.

NoteUser can copy whole OPIM folder from below path & paste to workspace for easy use.

    C:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenPlantIsometricsManager V8i\WorkSpace

  5. Copy Existing cell and paste it in below same table. Modify it as per requirement. See below image where cell has been modified. Also please find custom.cel file attached herewith in case any trouble on modifying.

  6. Save & Close.

  7. Generate Isometrics & Verify Result.
