How to Allow not Administrators Group user Edit AutoPLANT with ProjectWise Integrated Projects Settings

    Applies To
    Product(s): AutoPLANT Modeler
    Version(s): 08.11.11.XXX (SS6) | 08.11.12.XXX (SS7) | 08.11.13.XXX (SS8)
    Environment:  Windows 7/8.1/10 (64 bit)
    Area:  ProjectWise Integration
    Subarea:
Original Author: Kestutis Mitkus, Bentley Product Advantage Group

    Background

There are some situations when users have big number of AutoPLANT Modeler projects integrated with ProjectWise and big number of ProjectWise users which can work with these projects. But these ProjectWise users can't log in Bentley Project Administrator and edit AutoPLANT Modeler projects settings, even if same new group will be created in both sides as it is recommended. In such situation user might want to create special AutoPLANT Administrators group with ProjectWise users, which would be allowed to edit AutoPLANT Projects settings only through Bentley Project Administrator.

There is possibility to allow users manage with ProjectWise integrated AutoPLANT Projects in Bentley Project Administrator, without adding them to the Administrator group and giving them full control over all Project Settings in Bentley Project Administrator. This requirement to grant ProjectWise users some administrator rights was implemented with by default for similar purposes created Restricted Administrators group.

    Steps to accomplish:

    1. Create Restricted Administrators group in Bentley Project Administrator.

    2. Add required user to Restricted Administrators group in ProjectWise Administrator.

    3. Try to log in ProjectWise Administrator

This user can log in to ProjectWise Administrator, but he has no rights to edit project settings and he can't do any changes for projects in ProjectWise Administrator. Administrator can grant him with rights to manage Datasource nodes and then he will see and will be able to change allowed settings.

    4. Try to log in Bentley Project Administrator.

This user is allowed connect to Bentley Project Administrator and edit all with ProjectWise integrated  AutoPLANT project settings. With ProjectWise Integrated AutoPLANT projects editing in Project Administrator is allowed only for Administrators and Restricted Administrators groups users.
