Overview

To show Isolation Gasket in Isometrics generated from i-models created from OpenPlant Modeler

Problem Description

In OpenPlant Modeler, sometimes it could be the modeler's choice or as per project specific requirement it has been envisioned to place Isolation Gaskets in the model.

Currently Openplant Modeler does not include any such Isolation Gaskets in its library.

Isolation gaskets are used to stop the current flow across metallic pipelines by separating two flanges. The isolation of the pipeline segments allows cathodic protection for underground and above ground pipelines to control the stray electric current flow.

Steps to Resolve

  1. Launch Bentley Class Editor and open OpenPlant_3D schema supplemented with

    >OpenPlant_3D_Supplemental_Modeling.01.07.ecschema.xml
    >OpenPlant_3D_Supplemental_ModelingViews.01.07.ecschema.xml
    >OpenPlant_3D_Supplemental_Metric_DefaultValues.01.07.ecschema.xml
    >OpenPlant_3D_Supplemental_Information_3DComponent.01.07.ecschema.xml

  2. Go to Classes -> Plant Base Object -> Joint

  3. Right Click on Joint Type in the Class pane and Add Element

  4. Scroll down to the new Joint Type created and Add Element on End Preparation 1, End Preparation 2, and, Fastener
  5. Add the following details in respective fields

    Joint name-    ISOLATION GASKET JOINT
    End Preparation 1[0]-   FLANGED
    End Preparation 2[0]-   FLANGED
    Fastener[0]-    GASKET
    Is Fastener Spec Driven-    True

  6. Save the Schema and Exit
  7. Go to your Spec and change SHORT_DESCR field of a GASKET to “Iso Gasket”; say in mA1-OPM

  8. Save the Spec
  9. Launch OpenPlant Modeler and choose the Spec just edited; here mA1-OPM
  10. Place a Weld Neck Flange (here of Nominal Diameter of 150mm) on a pipe
  11. A Joint Selection dialog box pops up

  12. Select ISOLATION GASKET JOINT form the box
  13. In the Joint Item Insertion box select the gasket with the name “Iso Gasket”

  14. Click on the Gasket and view its Element Information

  15. Launch OpenPlant Isometric Manager and go to Configuration -> Isometric Style -> Advanced -> Open Report Definition

  16. In the report.def file that opens up search for “REPORT= SHP”

  17. Add the text “ COLUMN =  17: R : SHORT_DESCRIPTION “ under the text “COLUMN =  7: R : SIZE2” in the file

  18. Search for “REPORT = FLD”
  19. Add the text “ COLUMN =  17: R : SHORT_DESCRIPTION “ under the text “ COLUMN =  7: R : SIZE2 “

  20. Save the file and verify results in OpenPlant Isometric Manager
