It may at times become necessary to add insulation only to certain components. For instance, a design may require that only Pipe be insulated, whereas valves, instruments etc. would not require insulation. Rather then constantly toggle the component preference on and off, it can be easily accomplished via a Component Update command for a selection of Models in the Project. This article focuses on the steps to accomplish this.
**Note, the steps can be used to update any field designated as updateable in Project Administrator. Please see this article for the steps to make a component data field updateable.**
1. Go to Piping>Setup>Component Update Preferences
2. Add INSTHICK from the Available Fields column to the Fields to Include column
Since we are only modifying the properties of specific components, we need to somehow filter down for our specific component set. In this example, the Advanced Selection dialog is used to select Pipe only by using its Class name.
1. Go to Piping>Database Tools>Update Components
2. In the Selection Dialog, select the Advanced section and on the right hand side to select all drawings in the Project you wish to update.
3. Change "Data Type" to 3D Piping Data. **3D Piping Data Queries are only valid on Drawings that have been previously saved**
4. Change "Attribute Type" to Class.
5. Use the Constraint Type to decide how you will Filter based on Class. In this case, "=" is appropriate as I am adding insulation to all Pipe. However, if you were removing insulation from all other component classes you would use "<>" to designate every class outside of your selection. For further information on Constraint types please consult the Piping help files.
6. Select the Attribute Value of your choice. In this case, "Pipe" is selected. Press "Add" in the Active Query section. The window now appears as below. Press OK to proceed to the Update Component diaog.
In the Update Component Dialog, switch to the Component Properties tab and select the INSTHICK property. Use the Edit box below to update the INSTHICK value for all Pipe as seen below:
