    Overview

When working with ProStructural (which combines ProSteel and ProConcrete) in ProjectWise V8i, the application is not part of the applications available in ProjectWise. This application needs to be added to properly work with ProjectWise. This TechNote goes over the basic steps to adding the ProStructural program into the ProjectWise application group in a datasource.

    Creating the ProStructural Application

The first thing that needs to be done to add this application is to launch ProjectWise Administrator V8i and log into the datasource that needs the application. Once logged in, go to the Application's node like image below -

Next, right click on the Applications node and select New>Application.

This will load the "New Application Properties" dialog as seen below.

Give the Application a Name in the Name text box, the name has to be Bentley ProSteel for the program to work correctly. After this, click the Actions tab. Here you will see a Create button -

Click this button to launch the Create Association dialog as shown below -

Here you can assign the application to be launched for the give action as well as any command line arguments used for that program. The first thing we need to do is give the Program description. Since I will be using AutoCAD 2009 with ProStructural, I will call this one AutoCAD 2009. Next, the Program Class needs to be assigned. To do this, click the ... button. This will bring up the "Select Associated Program" dialog, which has three tabs - Programs, Executables, Advanced. We can just scroll through the programs given in the Programs tab until "ProjectWise-integrated AutoCAD 2009 is located and then select it. This will populate the "Program class name:" text box with the following value - AutoCAD.Drawing.PW.17.2. Lastly, we need to add the Command line argument to pull the ProStructural profile. For this part, it is easier to look on a machine that has ProStructural installed and has the icons already built. Just look at the properties of that shortcut and find the section that calls the profile. It starts with a /p. For AutoCAD 2009, the shortcut will call -

    /p "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Bentley\Plant V8i\ProStructureACAD_7001_409.arg".

Be sure to not place the " around the /p. Once all the needed information is placed, press OK to create the Association. This will go back to the "New Application Properties" dialog which will show all the information for the new action.

Press Apply to save these changes to the datasource.

Setting the Icon for the Application

Some user may want the documents to show an icon associated with the application that they will be run in. To do this, open the Application's Properties dialog by right click on it and selecting Properties. From the General Tab, click the Set icon button.

This will launch the "Select Image" display. From here, you can browse to a desired icon and select it. For ProStructural, the icon can be found here - C:\Program Files\Bentley\ProStructure\V8i\AutoCAD 2009\Prg\ps.ico. Locate the icon and once the file is found, select the icon in the "Select Icon" section.

Once this is done, press the OK button to accept this icon for the program. Notice back in the application's properties that the icon is now displayed like below -

    Additional Information

One thing to keep in mind, when using this application, the ProSteel program will not be automatically loaded. The user needs to manually load it.
