How to consider Bend Radius when Routing Cables

Product(s): Bentley Raceway and Cable Management
      Version(s): 10.03.00.25
      Environment: N/A
      Area: Cable Routing
      Subarea: N/A

    Background

This article will explain how you can ensure that cable routing considers the bend radius of your cables and raceways when routing the cables Key features:

    • Specify cable minimum bend radius in the cable types definition.
    • Cable routing fails if minimum bend radius exceeds the RW'S bend radius.
    • After visualizing routed cables the calculated lengths will account for the bend.

    Steps to Accomplish

    1. Navigate to Manage on the ribbon and select Options.

    2. Go to Cable Data in Options dialog and then Select Cable Types.

*Cable lists must be imported before this step.

    3. Under Cable Types dialog, select any cable you want to route and assign Minimum Radius.
For example, here I selected two cable types 5C12 and 3C2 and assigned different minimum radius values to them.

After assigning minimum radius values, click apply and then ok.

    4. Now, select Cable Manager from Equipment & Cable.

    5. Select Manage and then double click on Collaboration Manager.

    6. Select all and then request lock.

    7. Select cable type 3C2 with 50 as minimum bend radius. Press right click and open Routing Manager.

    8. Now route selected cable type as shown below.

    9. Here you can see the cable cannot be routed and in info the reason for it is "Cable minimum bend radius is larger than raceway bend radius(raceway id)”.

    10. Now repeat Steps 7 & 8 for Cable type 5C12. This time the cable will get routed successfully. As the minimum bend radius of cable is lesser than the raceway’s bend radius.

    11. By visualizing the 3D cable you can easily see the bend and the adjusted length in the properties.
