How to Migrate a V8i Project to CONNECT Edition in Bentley Raceway & Cable Management

Product(s): Bentley Raceway & Cable Management
      Version(s): CONNECT Edition (10.04.00.31)
      Environment: N/A
      Area: N/A
      Subarea: N/A

    Background

The following example will illustrate how to move a V8i project to the Bentley Raceway and Cable Management CONNECT Edition.

Dataset customization done in V8i can be carried over to CONNECT Edition. All DGN files that users created in V8i can be copied over to CONNECT and design can be continued in CONNECT.

The goal is to continue to use the same project database in CONNECT that was used in V8i to minimize the changes and project disruption.

    Steps to Accomplish

It is recommended that the dataset is first updated locally and then copied to the appropriate ProjectWise location.

Follow the given steps to update the dataset locally:

    • Open the pw.cfg file from the following location: C:\Program Files\Bentley\Bentley Raceway and Cable Management CONNECT Edition\BRCM\config\appl\

    • Un-comment the line: PW_DISABLE_INTEGRATION_FROM_DESKTOP=1 , which will disable the ProjectWise Integration and bypass the ProjectWise login dialog when BRCM is launched.

    • save thw pw.cfg file.

Follow the steps below to upgrade the V8i Projects to CONNECT Edition:

    1. Launch Bentley Raceway & Cable Management CONNECT Edition .

    2. On the WorkPage , Select Create a new WorkSpace from the Workspace dropdown menu.

    3. Type in WorkSpace Name and Description as needed.

The Root Folder, WorkSets Folder and Standards Folder location will populate automatically, you can also set the desired folder locations and need to update the location in the configuration file(Optional).

Note: WorkSpace name can be changed, as long as BRCM_DB_ID is kept the same so existing project database can be used.

    4. The new WorkSpace CONNECT_Metric is now created.

    5. Now Select Create a Workset. A Create WorkSet dialog will open.
Enter the WorkSet Name and click OK.

    6. As a result of creating a new WorkSpace and WorkSet the following folders and files will be created automatically.

    7. In the next steps, we will review configuration variables and make changes to BRCM_DB_ID.

    8. Since you have created a new WorkSpace and WorkSet, you need to have a Configuration file at the WorkSet level named as BRCM.cfg, placed inside a folder named as BRCM.

This folder should be placed at C:\ProgramData\Bentley\BRCM CONNECT Edition\Configuration\Workspaces\CONNECT_Metric\WorkSets\Workset_Name\Standards.

    9. You can copy the configuration file from any delivered WorkSpace example and paste it at C:\ProgramData\Bentley\BRCMCONNECTEdition\Configuration\Workspaces\CONNECT_Metric \WorkSets\Workset_Name\Standards\BRCM.

This file is equivalent to the Bentley_Test.PCF file in the V8i Edition.

    10. In order to connect to the v8i database, the value for BRCM_DB_ID has to be the same in CONNECT Edition as the one defined in the V8i project.

    11. Now, copy the V8i dataset and paste it to the new WorkSpace CONNECT_Metric created in CONNECT Edition.
    12. Make sure to paste the dataset under the std_dataset folder. Note: If the std_dataset folder is not automatically created, create a new folder and name it as std_dataset then place it at the given location in below image.

    13. Copy all the DGN files from the V8i Project and paste it in the new Workset in CONNECT Edition.

    14. Now launch CONNECT Edition and Select the newly created WorkSpace CONNECT_Metric and Workset.
Open any DGN from the WorkSet.

    15. Create a local Project File. It will automatically take the Path for dgn folder under the WorkSet folder.

    16. Now, you need to update the dataset.
      Press Yes and Proceed.

    17. You can Backup files before updating.
      This is an optional step.

    18. The dataset is now upgraded and the files are ready to be used.

    19. Now close CONNECT Edition.

    20. In order to enable ProjectWise again, comment the line: PW_DISABLE_INTEGRATION_FROM_DESKTOP=1 in pw.cfg and place the WorkSpace in an appropriate location in ProjectWise.
