Problem Description

In Mix Metric WorkSet of OpenPlant Modeler the Total Weight at times is incorrectly calculated. This could be because the specification record contains the weight in kg/m and the length is measured in mm.

The total weight is calculated as:

Weight (per length) x Length (in mm)

This causes the weight to be multiplied by 1000 times which is incorrect.

Steps to Resolve

1. Launch Bentley Class Editor.
   
   
   
   
   
2. Load OpenPlant_3D schema and supplement Modeling and ModelingViews schema.
   
   
   
   
   
3. Browse to Pipe Class.
   
   
   
   
4. In the properties tab select TOTAL_WEIGHT.
   
   
   
   
5. Add Calculated ECProperty Specification Custom Attribute and keep the location as Modeling.
   
   
   
   
6. Create an expression to use weight per unit and length and multiply by 0.001 to calculate Total Weight on metre basis.
   
   
   
   
7. Save and close schema.
   
   
8. Now the placed pipe instances will have weight calculated correctly.
