How to Route Trench in Bentley Raceway and Cable Management

Product(s): Bentley Raceway and Cable Management
      Version(s): CONNECT Edition (10.04.00.31)
      Environment: N/A
      Area: Underground Systems
      Subarea: N/A

    Background

If you have a need to create an underground trench cabling system you can do so quickly and easily utilizing the Trench Router tool. By using this tool you can quickly define and route trenches with supports, a cover, and different sets of attributes like voltage levels, and cable laying methods defined. This makes it possible to perform cable routing through trenches.

Trench Router tool also provide the user many ways to customize the trenches like covers, trench supports and various dimensional properties.

    Steps to Accomplish

    1. Launch Bentley Raceway and Cable Management.
Select a WorkSpace , WorkSet and open a Raceway design file.

    2. Select the Underground System ribbon tab and select the Trench Router Tool from the Trench ribbon group.

    3. The Concrete Create Tool/Trench dialog will open.

    4. Enable the Automatically create cable routing lines through fittings option.
When enabled, the cable lines will continue through any fittings in the trench such as elbows, tees, etc., otherwise, you will need to route the cable lines manually.

    5. It is optional to enable the Has Cover option if the trench is to be covered. When this option is enabled, the cover will display in the Trench Preview.

    6. Enable the Place Trench supports option to include supports in the trench.
Settings for the trench supports are defined in the Support Settings section of the dialog.

    7. From the Support Settings, click the Setup Grid icon to configure the support layout.

    8. Now configure the cable supports by specifying the number of supports and the spacing and offsets and press OK.

    9. Here. You can see the support we added from the Setup Grid dialog in the preview.

    10. Set the distance for the Horizontal spacing between supports. Then, define values for the support Length, Width and Height.
Finally, define the support properties in the bottom pane which enable to set voltage levels for a support, a cable laying method and even max capacities.

    11. Click the Right Side Supports tab and check the Copy Supports settings from the left side option.
When enabled, this option will copy the support settings of the left side and use them to place supports on the right side. If you need a different arrangement of supports on the right side, you can edit them as needed.
Press OK to route the trench.

    12. This is how the Concrete Trench with the supports and the Cable routes will be displayed after routing.
