Background

By following this article, you can create an equipment list in Excel with the help of Power Platform’s reporting tool and later import the equipment list in Bentley Raceway and Cable Management using the Equipment Import tool.

Steps to Accomplish

1. Launch Bentley Raceway and Cable Management, Select WorkSpace and WorkSet.
   Open any DGN file for example: Equipment.dgn.
   Note: You can also follow the same steps inside Substation to extract an equipment list.
   
   
2. Attach the Substation DGN/iModel as a reference.
   
   
   
3. Select Drawing workflow and select Reports from Analyze ribbon tab.
   
   
   
4. Select New Category from the Reports dialog.
   
   
   
5. Name the category, for example Equipment.
   
   
   
6. Select the category and then Add report definition.
   
   
   
7. Name the report definition and select Yes for the Include Reference Attachments as our iModel is attached as a reference.
   
   
   
8. Now select browse in the Item Types.
   
   
   
9. Select Cells as an Item Type and press Ok.
   
   
   
10. Now select Add Related Item to add in the selected Item Type.
    
11. Select Tag Instances from the list and press Ok.
    
12. Expand the Report definition tree and Add Columns.
    
    
    
13. Select Value to be added as a column in the report.
    
    
    
14. Now Select Origin to be added as another column in the report.
    
15. Now Select Preview Results to preview the report.
    
    
    
16. You can review the report from the preview.
    
    
    
17. Now Export Results from the Reports dialog.
    
    
    
18. Export Results will generate an Excel report in xls/xlsx format.
    With the help of the Text to Column tool you can rearrange the values in different columns.

19. After rearranging and filtering out the unwanted equipment’s tag values, you will get an equipment list which could be imported inside Bentley Raceway and Cable Management with the help of Equipment Import tool.
