How to Auto Place Victaulic Coupling on Pipe to Pipe connection in OpenPlant Modeler.

 Product(s):OpenPlant Modeler
 Version(s):CONNECT Edition
 Environment:N/A
 Area:Pipe Placement
 Subarea:Coupling

Background

In Imperial project when pipe to pipe connection is present, coupling is not placed while using the Victaulic spec. However, in case of pipe to elbow connection GROOVE_JOINT is created and CAM_AND_GROOVE_COUPLING is placed on the joint automatically.

Coupling is not placed automatically on the pipe to pipe connection because in Victaulic Spec the End condition for Pipe in Pipe table are not defined and PLAIN_END is assigned to both ends whereas groove joint requires IGM end condition in order to place Cam and Groove coupling.

This article explains what changes are required to configure the auto-placement of coupling on pipe to pipe connection.

100 mm Pipe component has been taken as an example in this case.

Steps to Accomplish

1. Using OpenPlant Example WorkSpace and Imperial Workset, open Victaulic.mdb spec.

2. Go to PIPE table and in the MAIN_SIZE column apply a filter and display on 4” size component entries.

3. Apply filter on EC_CLASS_NAME column and display only PIPE components.

4. In the END_COND_1 and END_COND_2 columns, input the value IGM and save the spec.

5. Open a new model and create a 4” pipeline using Victaulic spec.

6. Place a Pipe and in the pipe selection dialog select the pipe having MALE_CAM_AND GROOVE_END end preparations on both ends.

7. Place a straight piece of pipe in the model and place another pipe starting from the end of the first placed pipe.
Joint Insertion dialog will be displayed.
Select the type of joint to be inserted between the two pipes.

8. The Victaulic coupling will be automatically placed between the pipes for the pipe to pipe connection.
It can be seen from the element properties that the type of Victaulic coupling is CAM_AND_GROOVE coupling.
