Background

When making complex changes to the OpenPlant schemas, the use of Bentley Class Editor is advisable. However, for minor changes such as creating a new class, the user can opt to do it with the help of Schema Editor, accessible from OpenPlant Project Administrator. This will save the user time and reduce the complexity of the task.

Steps to Accomplish

  1. Launch OpenPlant Project Administrator CONNECT Edition.
  2. On the left-hand side box, navigate to OpenPlantModeler under the desired WorkSet and click on it.
  3. On the top bar, click on Settings, and then on Schema Editor. This will access the Schema Editor, a simplified version of Class Editor, easier to use but with less capabilities.
  4. On the left-hand side box, navigate to the desired location. For this example, the Equipment class has been chosen as the base class for the class to be created. Then click on the button with a green plus sign on the header.
  5. Choose a Name and Display label for the new class and hit OK.

The class has been created successfully.

Note: if the class was created in the OpenPlant_3D schema, the program will prompt the user if they want to create the same class in the OpenPlant schema as well. If this is a class that the user wishes to have in both schemas, press Yes.

However, in this scenario, the new class on the OpenPlant Schema must be a base class for the one in the OpenPlant_3D schema. This cannot be done from Schema Editor, the user should do it on Class Editor. Please visit this wiki on how to do it.
