Background

Unexplained errors are experienced during install of OpenPlant. There are two cases documented. First is another Openplant Product is still istalling. Second is a Windows issue where Windows installer is processing in the background. Windows relies on its services in order to run properly, and there’s a service called Windows Installer that’s in charge of installing new software.

Steps to Fix

CASE 1: Another OpenPlant product is installing.

  1. Let the existing installation to finish before proceeding with another product.
  2. Once no other product is installing, you can proceed with the install.

CASE 2.1: Restart the Windows Installer service

  1. Press the Windows key + R to start Run, type services.msc, and press Enter or click OK.

  2. Scroll down, find Windows Installer, and double-click on it to show it's properties.

  3. Look at the Service status and if it reads Running, just click the Stop button below.

  4. Try to install OpenPlant and see if the same error happens.

CASE 2.2: End the Windows Installer process

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc on your keyboard to open Task Manager.
  2. Navigate to the Processes tab and locate Windows Installer.
  3. Right-click it and choose End task from the menu.
If you have multiple Windows Installer processes running be sure to stop them all.
