Background

Upon performing a 2D extraction of a 3D model, all the equipment symbols extracted to the 2D drawing will be in the same default level: E_EQP_2D. In this wiki, it will be outlined how to extract the 2D symbols of different types of equipment to different levels.

Please note that in order to follow the workflow described below, it must be done with a file open that is either of type 3D Model, Equipment or 3D Model, Equipment * Raceway, since it involves the use of the Equipment Manager.

Steps to Accomplish

  1. Click on File, then Options.
  2. In the CAD Standards menu, Levels tab, add a new level. The new level will appear at the bottom of the list.

  3. Modify the level description and name as desired. For the purpose of this example, the level will be named E-MOTOR_2D. Click on Apply and then on OK.
  4. Open the Equipment Manager.

  5. Select the Create/Modify Equipment tab, then click on the folder symbol.
  6. Select the type of equipment whose level will be modified in the 2D extraction. In this example EQP_Motor.xml, is the chosen type of equipment.

  7. Select symbology_2D, and then the desired level. Click on the Save icon and then on OK.

The next time a motor is placed and later extracted, its 2D symbol will be in the E-MOTOR_2D level. Different levels can be created for different pieces of equipment, e.g. E-PANEL_2D for the Panel equipment and so on. The user can choose to skip steps 1-3 and assign the 2D symbols to already existing levels.
