Justinas Lipnickas , Bentley Product Advantage Group

Problem Description

While executing any project, user want to change their Element Templates or Named Expressions, already modeled pipelines are not automatically redrawn to represent new look. User need to manually trick OpenPlant Modeler into redrawing its old components.There are multiple commands in OpenPlant Modeler which does redraw components after them, but it is advisable to use Edit Insulation in Pipeline Manager, as it requires very little user input and does redraw all components as needed.

Note: This is only applicable to users working in a file based mode, users working with a OpenPlant ModelServer setup should not get into these kind of issues, as updated Element Template should be used on the next component check-out.

Steps to Resolve

Open Pipeline Manager, select the line(s) you would like to update, click Edit Insulation button;

User may add a new insulation or may retain it to default setting and click OK. In both cases it redraw associated components. See below image of one example.

After component update finishes, Edit the insulation again and check on the Remove Insulation to get inside pipeline to the original state.

After these updates, pipeline should have a new Element Template applied to it, according to the changed Named Expressions. If pipeline already has some insulation, user would need to switch the order of steps 2-3, by firstly removing insulation, and then adding it back again.

Alternatively, user can select the pipeline and run Key-in "bmech rebuild". Save the DGN & it will restore the levels.

Still a Problem

There could be several occasion where user might find it useful to apply & depends case to case basis.

If the problem still persist, then please create a Service Request and contact the Bentley Product Advantage group. Please include the list of all relevant details to get in depth analysis for solution or workaround.

If during some point of your project, you change your Element Templates or Named Expressions, already modeled pipelines are not automatically redrawn to represent new look. You need to manually 'trick' OpenPlant Modeler into redrawing your old components.There are multiple commands in OpenPlant Modeler which does redraw components after them, but I would recommend to use "Edit Insulation" in Pipeline Manager, as it requires very little user input and does redraw all components as needed.

Note: this is only applicable to users working in a file based mode, users working with a OpenPlant ModelServer setup should not get into these kind of issues, as updated Element Template should be used on the next component check-out.

Steps to Accomplish

Open Pipeline Manager, select the line(s) you would like to update, click Edit Insulation button;

If your line has no insulation, just add some to it (there is no difference in the settings), click OK.

After component update finishes, Edit the insulation again and check on the Remove Insulation to get your pipeline to the original state.

After these updates, your pipeline should have a new Element Template applied to it, according to the changed Named Expressions. If your pipeline already has some insulation, you would need to switch the order of steps 2-3, by firstly removing insulation, and then adding it back again.

Alternatively, user can select the pipeline and run Key-in "bmech rebuild". Save the DGN & It will restore the levels.

After component update finishes, Edit the insulation again and check on the Remove Insulation to get your pipeline to the original state.

After these updates, your pipeline should have a new Element Template applied to it, according to the changed Named Expressions. If you pipeline already has some insulation, you would need to switch the order of steps 2-3, by firstly removing insulation, and then adding it back again.

If during some point of your project, you change your Element Templates or Named Expressions, already modeled pipelines are not automatically redrawn to represent new look. You need to manually 'trick' OPM into redrawing your old components and unfortunately, there is no tool or key-in to do just that. There are multiple commands in OPM which does redraw components after them, but I would recommend to use "Edit Insulation" in Pipeline Manager, as it requires very little user input and does redraw all components as needed.

Note: this is only applicable to users working in a file based mode, users working with a OpenPlant ModelServer setup should not get into these kind of issues, as updated Element Template should be used on the next component check-out.

Steps to Accomplish

Open Pipeline Manager, select the line(s) you would like to update, click Edit Insulation button;

If your line has no insulation, just add some to it (there is no difference in the settings), click OK.

After component update finishes, Edit the insulation again and check on the Remove Insulation to get your pipeline to the original state.
