USE OF SLIDER UTILITY IN GENERATIVE COMPONENT

Hi,

I am using GC Connect edition and came across "slider" utility.

When I am using slider movement all of a sudden the % CPU utilization of my workstation is going 25-35% and it is causing a complete jam to my PC for 5-6 minutes.

Does anyone encountered the same problem ?

Can anyone tell the cause of this problem and suggest any solution.

Regards,

Anjum

  • Hello Anjum,

What you describe reads like you have a very involved model depending on the slider. However, if you are using the slider without any downstream dependencies, then what you describe is unexpected behavior.

Attached is a short video showing the expected slider performance (AECOsim Building Designer CONNECT Edition Update 2 with GenerativeComponents as Companion Feature) and the DGN from which the video was taken.

If your performance differs please check whether your system and graphics drivers are up-to-date.

Please let me know about your results.

  • Hi Volker,

Still my machine is taking long time when moving the slider.

Is there anything you see in my machine specs above to be responsible for this.

  • Hi Anjum,

Your machine specs look fine. Have you run updates lately?

Graphics performance may depend on the graphics support your hardware provides, your graphics settings, and any software updates.  Admittedly, I am not an expert in that area.

Is your slider experience just with a single slider placed in an otherwise empty file?  Did you use the test case I provided?  If you did, and you still get the symptoms you described in your initial post, then something is definitely not well.  This could be in any of the components affecting this behavior: computer and graphics hardware, OS software, graphics drivers, updates, settings, installation of AECOsim Building Designer with GenerativeComponents and the supporting libraries (like Visual C# runtime libraries), etc.

My recommendation: double-check whether your graphics drivers are up-to-date, run Windows updates, test slider.  If this still causes the described problems, run a Repair on the ABD + GC installation.
