Transactions and nodes disappeared after crash

I was fiddling with the promote element tool when gc crashed. Upon reopening the file, all my transactions were rewound. I noticed that a good portion of transactions were missing. I attempted to play them by activating the last one. It got part way through before giving me an error stating that it couldnt create an object using an existing name. I was looking around the graph and transactions for the missing nodes/transactions when gc crashed again.

Upon reopening for the second time, all transactions and nodes were missing, and a single "section" node was present (which I had not made use of in my model), with not even a baseCS present.

Is there anything I can do to recover my file/avoid this in the future? Im not sure what even caused it.

  • Hi Dennis,

Sorry to hear that you ran into such problems.

When things go awry, do look in the working folder for a .~gt file.  Copy it and rename its extension to .gct.  This could contain more of the transactions.  However, repeated opening of the problem file may overwrite that .~gt file.

Also, when a problem has occurred, playing the transactions step by step will allow to start narrowing down where the error occurs.

In any case, making a copy of a problem file and its .~gt backup before opening the file again may help preserve more of your work.

Do you remember what type of geometry you were trying to promote?  If that was the root cause of the problems, perhaps we can eliminate it.

    Regards,
