Generative Components Stand Alone Installation

I have recently installed the stand alone version of GC which when first installed was working fine. However the last day or so when opening the application it freezes upon opening, the command line says 'unknown key-in or command' which I assume is the issue.

I have re-installed a couple of times but have the same issue. Has anyone else come across this issue?

Thanks

Mike

  • Hi Michael,

Was there anything you can recall that changed since the first installation of the standalone GC application?

After uninstalling, it may be necessary to delete the application preferences which are in a location like C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Bentley\GenerativeComponents\8.11\<GUID>\ and restart the machine before reinstalling the application.

  • Nothing I can recall, shut down the application on Friday and Monday I couldn't open it. After the issue strated I have GC extension to AECOsim installed, upon loading the extension I have the same issue and application crashes.

I have had both AECOsim and GC completely uninstalled and started again but hasn't solved the issue.

  • Hi Michael,

If you start up AECOsim Building Designer without GenerativeComponents, does that work? Which versions of ABD and GC are you installing?

After uninstalling ABD and GC, have you deleted the extraneous files in the location to which I pointed in my post, also for ABD in similar location. After deleting those files, reboot your machine before installing the applications.

Otherwise, with the information at hand, there is no apparent reason why application behavior would change without any other changes on the computer, especially after normal shut down.

    Regards,

  • That's a good suggestion, Volker - does AECOsim start up properly without GC?  That result should help steer us in the right direction.

Michael, I'm assuming the Target Path for your desktop shortcuts still look something like these?:

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\AECOsimBuildingDesigner V8i Ss6\AECOsimBuildingDesigner\AECOsimBuildingDesigner.exe" -wsGC=1
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley GC 08.11.09.288\GenerativeComponents\GenerativeComponents.exe"

At least I'm assuming you're using V8i since you mentioned both the extension and standalone versions.   And just to be sure - you don't have any Windows updates pending?    Speaking of...  what is your Windows version?
