How to generate 2d drawings from GC

Is there any way to collect a series of 2d drawings into a dgn file from a 3d GC model of certain objects whose locations are parametrically determined? If so, is there anyway to automatically generate dimensions on these drawings too? thanks.

  • Hi Dennis,

It is possible to use the ClipVolume and Plan and Section node types to generate saved views for use in a documentation workflow. Drawing composition, however, remains a manual process. GenerativeComponents can help with keeping plan and section cuts aligned with parametrically changing conditions. There is no automatic dimensioning.

We are very interested in improving this workflow and your thoughts about it.

  • Hi Volker,

I was thinking the other day that it would be nice if the drawing automation tool in AECOsim could have a  GC node based approach to sheeting up saved views.

Rather than the clunky static "tax form" dialog the current exists it would be good to have a node based approach to creating cuts, creating drawings, creating sheets, updating field values, referencing one file into another, etc. Then the user/admin could plug in the nodes any which way they needed to replicate the workflow they are probably doing by hand because the automated tool doesn't give them quite what they need.

  • Thank you, Robert, for this suggestion. I have added a link to your post in our internal documentation about our documentation workflow plans.
