Possibility for GC in Multidiscipline?

For people use parametric modeling , we know that GC in Bentley products family is similar as Dynamo in Autodesk products family.

GC is primarily used in Architectural, which is the same as early version of Dynamo.

BUT dynamo is now expanding its scope to other disciplines, like dynamo for Civil 3D (linear structure, such as road, tunnel modeling), dynamo for Bridge, Dynamo for Steel structure.

  • I do not understand why GC has been dropped from MicroStation CONNECT, and is only available in OpenBuildings/Rail.

Being able to use GC in vanilla MicroStation to explore pure geometry is a really powerful tool for many kinds of designers who are not necessarily interested in a full blown BIM tool with all the associated overhead. Perhaps the idea is to try get the MicroStation parametric engine to take on this role, but it is no where near as flexible/creative as GC.

Dynamo's power is that it is not limited to geometry and can hook into many other area of interest in their products. With Bentley you have always had the ability to do this kind of hooking in through coding (SKD's/ VBA etc.), but this lacks the interface/immediacy/uniformity of a dynamo/GC like workflow.

  • Yep, GC really needs to be expanded to the Civil products like OpenRoads, OpenRail, etc.

    Would be a game changer...
