Hi all,
Recently, I am trying to use Generative Components to parametrically create structure by using the StructuralMember Node.
I have 2 questions below:
1 . With the OBD Structural placement tool, and Coping Option, the Structure could be cut nicely. But with GC StructuralMember Node, I do not find any relevant options to cut structure shape. How to cut connecting structure shape with GC Node?
2 . Even it is a simple GC model, I find the GC update 5 is little bit lower performance, especially when the building GC Node is selected, my mouse cursor can not be moved fluently, as if the mouse cursor gets stuck, it gets right 2 seconds later.
Thanks, and looking forward to your reply.

Zhengpeng
Hi Zhengpeng,
The StructuralMember node is currently being updated and we have started discussing how to handle coping. Because of the directional dependencies between inputs, outputs and sequentially other inputs and outputs, generating the coping between placed StructuralMember nodes is a computational task that is different from all the other tasks GenerativeComponents handles with its mechanisms. In OpenBuildings Designer this is different, because it can post-process all elements in the file once a user has finished interacting with the model. Much of that post-processing is proximity based and, therefore, very efficient and hardly noticeable by a user interacting with the model. Due to the control over elements that GenerativeComponents needs to have, that type of post-processing may cause problems that need to be avoided. This is in the works and will be part of one of the coming updates, with as little disruption to existing scripts and models as possible.
Best regards,
Volker

Hi Mueller, Thanks for your prompt reply. in order to parametrically create structure, so I have to wait for the next version. Looking forward to it.
We do not have coping functionality in GC for now. As we are working on new Structural Member feature where 'coping' will be taken care of, We have enhancement filed for the same.
Right now you can create structure in GC and export structural nodes for post-processing in OpenBuildings Designer [Ex. Cutback->Update-Edit ], which will give you desired results.

This helped me a lot when i was learning that GC, i found such good results in Tell The Bell.
