Poor Performance

Hello All,

I have a pretty simple GC model but the performance is really starting to demoralise me.

The script is basically placing a solid cube along an alignment at 20m spacing with some text over the top of it.  It works, but any changes to the nodes takes ages.  I have to wait 5 seconds to try and edit anything on the nodes.  Simply moving my mouse around the graph is also choppy.

My elements are outside the Solids working area, does this cause performance problems?

It has taken me three hours to just clean up the presentation of the graph and transaction list.  It is that slow.  I have to replicate these nodes at least 3 more times for the other alignments on the project.  If the computer just let me do what I wanted I could be done in an hour.  Right now I am not sure a whole day will be enough.

Any tips on making it go a little smoother?

Cheers,

Alex

  • So I finally finished the GC script and I add the Export Node and now it won't export the nodes...

Is there any elements that GC won't export?  All I am trying to export is text and Solids (cubes).  It is nothing too crazy.

If I do a separate node for just the solids it works.  As soon as I create an export node for the text nodes it crashes.  Is there some sort of bug that prevents text nodes from being exported?

  • Just an update to this.  It appears that I have found a bug.   verified last night that the Export Node will not allow Text Nodes to be exported.  Save-As the GC .dgn file to AutoCAD worked though.

This is an image of the Federated Model.  The Light Poles and the Chainage Cubes were both placed by GC.

This is the graph for the Cubes:

Unrelated to this thread but does anyone know how to bring the graph back to a floating window after you accidentally maximise it?  When I maximise it gets put into y primary screen and covers up the other windows within GC.  I can no long edit its size or position.  To fix this last time I had to delete user prefs.  Is there a better way to reset the graph window to default?

Edit: deleting this file only in the user prefs resets the window docking positions: "Personal.GenerativeComponents.docking.xml"
