I have created a retaining wall GC model. It consists of steel posts with concrete panels. The panels are created by placing cells then converting to solids, then another solid that follows the top profile and this is subtracted to create the final wall solid. I then export this into my working model. Section cuts are then applied for plans, elevations, etc. The cuts are normally in wireframe and I want to show my wall in plan or elevation with a fill or shade? is it possible to apply this shade or fill in the GC model?
Hi Richard
I would be using the various drawing production functions for this. Assuming you are using GC with OpenBuildings, your objects could have a Part and Family set in the node properties, and the Part and Families can be used to define fill colours in plan and section cuts. For anything in the forward view Display Styles is what you are looking for. Where you might want to define individual objects to have a fill in a forward view (not in a cut) look at Display Rules to define the criteria.
The idea of filling the appearance of objects only works for closed 2D objects such as circles, shapes, etc. Not for faces of solids as an example. For all other resymbolisation we use the other techniques above.

I need certain elements to have certaim shades (with an outline) I am familiar with the structural rules but not with any other rules? Do you mean the display rules under architectural? Yes I am trying to shade in the foward view?
As mentioned that would be raised to the Microstation group. Formalising it via a ticket is the best approach but you can also discuss it by a thread on the Microstation forum. But Dynamic will work for now.
At the moment KBR only use cached for their drawing production? ok, is the Microstation group and OBD group the same?
Display Rules, Display Styles and CVE's all exist in Microstation so that's where it needs to be adjusted and changed. If it can be.
ok, will do. but in the meanwhile, if i extract the faces of the solid, can i create a shade from the faces?
I have no idea, and I wouldn't even consider entertaining the effort involved, plus repeating it for every time a change occurs. I would just use Dynamic and accept that's the quickest and easiest method.
