GenerativeComponents CONNECT Edition release announcement (for reference)

GenerativeComponents CONNECT Edition has been released as Companion Feature to AECOsim Building Designer CONNECT Edition by Mueller

The GenerativeComponents CONNECT Edition release has been made available as integrated Companion Feature in AECOsim Building Designer CONNECT Edition Release (v.10.00.00.154). AECOsim Building Designer CONNECT Edition with the GenerativeComponents Companion Feature includes node types for Building Information Modeling. It is available for download from the Fulfillment Center.

The following improvements have been implemented in this release compared to our previous V8i SELECTseries 6 release:

    1. We replaced the task-based user interface with a ribbon interface, which makes commands more easily available, organized by workflows. GenerativeComponents' main workflow is "Computational Design", available in AECOsim Building Designer CONNECT Edition after installing the GenerativeComponents companion feature and only when starting AECOsim Building Designer from the "AECOsimBuildingDesigner GenerativeComponents" shortcut.

    2. CONNECT Edition desktop applications are supporting 64bit architecture throughout. This increases project scalability exponentially.
    3. AECOsim Building Designer CONNECT Edition includes GenerativeComponents as optional companion feature with the ABD Add-in which contains BIM node types.
    4. Generated Node Types (GNTs) are stored in a new format so that they become less dependent on regeneration in each new version of GenerativeComponents. The goal of this change is, that it is no longer required to execute the scripts which create the GNTs; it is only required to exchange the GNTs themselves and load them through the new GNT Manager dialog. This makes GNTs easier to exchange and future-proves them.
    5. The Transactions dialog has been renovated. It supports automatically numbered transactions which facilitates locating transactions when editing the entire script. It enables saving all transactions to the GCT file format and individual transactions or sets of selected transactions to text files.
    6. The Editor is now a non-modal dialog which can remain open. Changes are applied using the Apply button. The Editor supports multiple tabs now, so that the entire script or parts of it, multiple function definitions, etc. may be opened side-by-side for easy transfer of script snippets. When the Editor is open, Transactions will be generated automatically so that the Editor contents may remain synchronized.
    7. The Node Dictionary has been updated to include powerful Search capabilities.
    8. The Release versions continue the UX renovation. All icons in the primary user interface match the overall Bentley CONNECT Edition style. Other dialogs and context menus will continue to be updated.
    9. We have added easy placement of fundamental geometry node types. The first release includes Line, PolyLine, Polygon, and BSplineCurve; we will continue with Arc, Circle, EllipticalArc, and Ellipse. (Stay tuned.)
    10. GenerativeComponents overall robustness has been increased and we will continue working on this aspect of our product.

There are some features and/or capabilities that remain incomplete.  We will add limitations regarding this release in a Wiki entry in this product community.

Refer to the AECOsim Building Designer CONNECT Edition Release Announcement for any installation restrictions concerning previous releases of AECOsim Building Designer, specifically the information in the AECOsim Wiki entry CONNECT Edition - Preparing for Installation and Configuration.

    Projects:

In Bentley's CONNECT Edition, the Project nomenclature has been superseded by the term WorkSet. This change and others in the CONNECT Edition resulted in the addition of some new configuration variables, changes in folder paths and structures, and deprecation of other configuration variables. This is more critical for projects in the context of the ABD-GC integration. Therefore, please refer to the information in the AECOsim Building Designer CONNECT Edition Wiki's CONNECT Configuration Changes section.

    Reference & Support:

For the GenerativeComponents CONNECT Edition companion feature, your usual support resources continue to be available like for the V8i edition. Main support resource is this GenerativeComponents Bentley Community.
