Hi, I would like to download the SDK to develop addons for OpenRoads Designer.

Is it really necessary to pay for access to the BDN to use the SDK? I would think an SDK should be free.

    Hi Travis,
    First let me introduce myself.
    I am managing the BDN activity since last few months.
    Currently BDN program works in mainly two ways:-
    1) BDN Select: If you are already a Bentley user then you do not need to pay anything for for SDK access.
                              You just need to fill a BDN select from and send it to my team to get entitlements for SDK download.
                              BDN select does not give you any additional product license and you can use the SDKs for your own organizational purpose. 
    2) BDN Commercial : If you want to commercially use the Bentley SDKs then you need to apply for this. BDN commercial comes with a yearly fee. 
                                       But under this program you get licences for 5 different products for 5 users each for your SDK related development and testing.
                                       Additional licenses beyond this can be purchased extra. 
                                         
    Now the above is the standard BDN offering, but we do understands that there can be different needs for different users. 
    For example in the first year you may not commercially use your apps and want to focus more on development,
    or you are developing a complex application where you need more than 5 licences. 
    So we are open to discuss such instances for a case to case scenario and discuss about grants in such cases for a limited period.
     
    Users needs are always our priority. 
    For example in your case I would love to pass on your thoughts\feedback regarding the ORD product limitation to the development team.

    Just to correct this slightly...

    If your COMPANY has a SELECT support contract, your COMPANY can fill out the BDN form on your behalf.

    You will need to convince your company's software administrator that you need access to BDN so that they can fill out the necessary forms and send them to Bentley.
    Yes, even that "simple" extra step discourages tinkerers, and those who want to learn programming. A lot of companies aren't interested in that kind of paperwork for an employee to "play around".
