As a site that has written a number of MDL's over the years we were initially shocked at the expense we had to go to with converting our V8i MDL's to Connect MDL's.
It would now appear (please correct me if I'm wrong) that since Microstation Connect Update 5, where previously we used to have access to the SDK for each release of Microstation under our SELECT Agreement, this has now been withdrawn unless we go through an additional step and cost of joining the BDN. Having just renewed our SELECT Agreement I don't recall ever being notified of this???
IF Bentley have done this I would like to join with other Users in objecting in the strongest possible terms.
Having already expended a great deal of time and cost in transferring our existing MDL's to Connect this is like having salt rubbed into the wounds by Bentley.
I'm hoping this is a mistake that Bentley will rectify ASAP. As existing SELECT subscribers we expect the SDK to be made available with each release of Microstation.
Hi Alan,
BDN membership comes as benefit of SELECT agreement and it is free for non-commercial use.
You may pl. fill up the details at https://www.bentley.com/en/software-developers/bdn-inquiry-form so that BDN membership can be granted.
SDK will be made available with each release of Microstation to all BDN members.
Thanks
Sujeet
Just for asking...I don't believe that the company I work for has a Select Contract (they might, but I'm not that high up on the food chain). Just to clarify - if I wanted to start learning how to program in anything other than VBA, I would need to pay for a BDN membership?
That seems incredibly shortsighted to me. DIScouraging the best and brightest from getting interested in your software is not a good way to cultivate long-term users. Plenty of past (and probably future) CAD Admins develop that talent by tinkering around under the hood (either by choice of necessity).

The person who administers your Bentley licenses should know if your company has a SELECT agreement. You probably do, and are not aware that you can ask to be part of BDN...
Hi Mary,
As Bruce mentioned correctly, your site administrator (Sherly G.) may be able to add your communities login under their list of valid contacts for the associated company. The company associated with your communities login (address) appears to be under SELECT contract and may only require you to contact your site administrator to provide the necessary access and permissions needed. If you encounter any issues obtaining access please contact BDN using the BDN Contact Us link, or send BDN Program Manager (Sujeet Srivastava) a Bentley Communities "message".
HTH,Bob
Where are you seeing my Site Administrator & company information? I looked through my profile, and I cannot find that information to update it.
Mary your company information is safe and not mentioned or visible to the public in anyway. The internal information as mentioned likely needs to be adjusted by your site administrator or via the BDN Contact Us form to ensure proper permissions and associations are correctly assigned.
Please let me know if I can be of any programming assistance.
Thank you,Bob
